Tennessee river - Chattanooga/Knoxville

Zach - as Little Ducky said - year round in the slip. It will get cold in the winter, but usually only one or two times really get below freezing and very rarely for more than a day or two. I recall a couple of winters ago getting down to 10°, but that is really rare. Water temp is never below about 38° at the coldest although I have seen a thin layer of ice between the docks. TN has 4 great seasons.

Great links to our Chattanooga marina above... we cruise 20 minutes to our favorite weekend raft=up cove...

Sounds a heck of a lot more enjoyable than the winters in MN. I will take a closer look at the marina's when time allows. Appreciate the feedback

I live in Nashville and have been boating on Old Hickory Lake, the Cumberland River and Tennessee Rivers for longer than I want to admit and really love the inland waterways. I have lived in Destin and Miami and while I love the warm weather boating on the coast is just different.

In Knoxville, Nashville and Chatttanooga you will never have to pull your boat for winter in fact I never winterize I just keep heaters running on low temps in the salon and bilge. Your boat will look better longer in a covered slip in freash water as you really only need to buff and wax it one time a year and rework your bottom paint about every 4 - 5 years.

Nashville has two private Yacht Clubs one called Commodore (river) and Cedar Creek Yacht Club (Old Hickory Lake) that are both very nice. All the other marinas have covered slips. Ranging from 25’ to 75’ with power and pump outs. At CCYC thier is a 60 Sundancer, 55 Sundancer, 52 Sundancer, (2) 48 Sundancers, 47 Sedan Bridge, 48 Sedan Bridge with many other Hatteres, large Carvers and 75’ houseboats so thier is plenty of large boats on the water in the inland river waterways.in Nashville you can go to NFL Titans games by water and UT Vols in Knoxville, and AAA baseball in Chattanooga.

The Chattanooga and Knoxville areas have large and active boating environments with many Yacht Clubs and high quality marinas. IM me if you would like discuss the pros and cons..

When I get a chance to catch up on work it would be great to connect offline and discuss. Great to hear there is a decent selection of larger cruisers.

We have a week long trip book for the first week of Nov to check out both Nashville and Chattanooga. We are really looking forward to it.

Thanks, we are going to spend a day in each area checking out marina's.

Any other suggestions?

The only other Marina I am familiar with on Lake Chickamauga is Island Cove "Marina and Resort" in Harrison Bay - they have a travel lift that can handle large boats. I put it in quotes because that's what is painted on their travel lift (without the quotes) and Susan always gets a kick out of it - in other words, 8 motel rooms and a pool don't really make a "resort"!!!

There are about 4 other marinas in the area - Harrison Bay State Park Marina, Big Ridge, Pine Harbor, and Erwin Downtown. Hale's Bar Marina is on Lake Nickajack by I-24 - If I had to slip there, I would not be a boater - just sayin'...

If you are going to live there, not just looking for a place to visit and boat on weekends, Nashville has a whole lot more to offer, plus access to multiple lakes and several marinas. Nashville is about more than country music and is the cultural enter of the state......lots of nice restaurants, major college sports at Vanderbilt, as well as pro sports franchises (was the Tennessee Titans, the Nashville Predators.) 30 years ago we moved our business (General Management, Engineering Consulting, and machinery Design) to the Nashville area basically because of the Nashville Airport and flight availability which is far superior to Knoxville or Chattanooga.

Several of us are in the Nashville area and will be happy to share what we know.

Frank,

We are going to look at both area's as potential relocation places. Neither my wife or I enjoy the Minnesota winters. A full service marina in a location that allows for river trips both up and down river would be ideal. We don't know much about either area aside from what we have gathered online. Thus the week long trip to see the places in person. We don't mind seasons it just 6 months of no boating is getting a bit old. To get 6 months of boating up here we are the first boat in and the last hauled out each year. Any suggestions on marinas good or bad would be appreciated.

Zac, i am originally from Chatt and live in Nashville. I currently leave my boat in Chattanooga. I would be more than happy to show you around.

That would be great. I will touch base closer to our trip. We are looking forward to seeing both areas. It is on our short list of places to relocate too.

I looked at concert schedules for the Ryman Auditorium and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center for the first week of November. About all that was interesting was that it looks like this is the week the Grand Ol Opry moves back to its original location, the Ryman, from the Grand Ol Opry house out north of town.

Both of those venues are consistently rated the #1 & #2 live music venues in the nation.

Any suggestions for marinas to check out. Either ones to steer clear of or the best of the best.

Trip is all set will be in Chattanooga Nov 4/5 and in Nashville 6,7,8. Looking forward to seeing a new area. Any last minute Marina suggestions please let me know. We want to see 2-3 marinas in each area.

I'm in Chattanooga at Harbor Lights/Jones Bay marina. They are technically separate marinas, but are owned by the same person. It's a central location to a lot of my favorite spots on the Chickamauga lake (and it's close to my house). They recently built a lot of new covered slips that aren't shown on google maps yet but are featured at their website.
It has no service department to speak of, but the new owner is really sinking some cash into improvements.

As Little Ducky mentioned Erwin Marine is also a great choice, and the place to go for service as it is the local Sea Ray dealer. Erwin is buying up all the marinas in the area, which isn't necessarily bad because Erwin is well run. The Erwin marinas always have a waiting list, so you may want to get on it early if you decide to go that route.

I stayed at Rock Harbor Marine several years back and it was really nice,Blue Moon Cafe right on the water all right there combined in one it washed away during the big flood several years back I heard but they have since rebuilt and probably for the better. We had a great time there Adult beverages Live Music nice hang out, its a short boat ride from downtown Nashville but a nice option, they have a website.....
