Aqua Marine Deck installed

Wow. So beautiful. How do you keep your gel coat and cockpit so shiny!

Thanks for the complement. It took us a few years to get it that way. I have a wax guy that's a fanatic. It was quite dull when I took delivery. He said "Neglected or Abused" meaning Neglected he could bring back. And bring back he did.

I wash weekly with a soap that has wax as typical Boat Soaps seem to remove the wax. We only have to wax annually here but each time includes three trips around (all smooth surfaces including the cockpit & underside of hard top) using various products (initially w/ compound but not required any longer, cleaner wax, wax, and polish).

I keep the cockpit canvas on whenever not in use. We are one of the lucky ones that are located in an area where we the option of having covered slips. My slip is only exposed to morning sun. Combined, these help immensely.

How is the Aqua Marine deck for heat? Does it get really hot in the sun? Thanks

The heat isn't too bad most the time. If its breezy, not hot at all. The color choice has a big impact.

But for those stagnate, hot GA summer days, I do keep a quickly accessible bucket in the transom, with a short line tied to the handle. Quick, easy cooling solution for Dock or Aqua Marine Deck.

I've debated ordering that for my 96 330 Sundancer and glad to see the quality is good. Better option than the $4500 quote I got for someone to come out, template and do it for me.

I just got a quote from Aqua Marine for my 310DA of $1900 for swim platform and full cockpit was hoping for $1400.

I have my quote for like 1400 and I can pick it up as I live in Atlanta. A sheet is 75 delivered and I need 5 to do a 330 DA, so that's 375 and I cut it myself. My buddy did his in 4 hours, and I was on it this weekend and it looked pretty damn good honestly.

How would this work? They are custom made per the template with a border.

he must be comparing eBay product against aquamarine.

Seems the color choices are limited to grey or teak. I want something in the brown hue but not the teak that is currently offered. Are there other options to choose from?

Hi Christopher,
Based on what I saw at the ATL boat show, Aqua Marine Deck has many colors (20+) to choose from and they will do at least 3 layers (accent colors). In addition, their product is now thicker than what I got a few years ago so I'm guessing that means even more comfortable.

I went with Hydrodeck and they also offer a broad range of colors.

Hey Brett,

Does it get “burn your feet hot” in the dead of summer? The guy at the Boat Show insisted it did not get hot and I think I know better.

I put AquaTrak on our last boat on the swim platform and I have a pic of a heat gun pointed at it and it reads 163*. It was simply unbearable. You could wet it and the water would evaporate in 30 seconds or so.

Hi Bennett,

Typically the heat doesn't bother me (See post #23) and I run around barefoot all summer. Mid afternoon if it does get hot, I just dump a bucket of water on it. At the same time I'm probably dumping water on the docks too.

I liked working with Thomas as he did some things on my install that others couldn't or wouldn't. For example, notice how mine looks to be continuous with minimal gaps (Post #7). The install mimics the look of teak. The lines all flow from one panel to the next. I like the borders he is able put in with his cnc machine. He terminates each line at about 90° as fine points of minimal material could easily get damaged.

I'm a little OCD (maybe more than a little) and gave him my expectations up front, walking him up and down the dock showing him issues on others installs of similar products that I had concerns with and would not accept. He delivered.

I have an infrared thermometer on the boat. I should check the temp some time.

Hi. My last boat was a 2002 310DA and the cost for Aquamarine on the Swim platform was only around $700 so your quote sounds high.

$1900 is for the entire cockpit and platform. They responded that there was a group buy at the end of boating season that would’ve made the price about $1400 for the entire set.

im thinking of going with the decking this season but have a question. as far as cleaning / dirt accumulation... you know… hair , crumbs , dead bugs... all that stuff. is it a PITA to get all that stuff out of the channels between the decking pieces? does it hose out somewhat easily?

Wet down, soap & a pole brush, scrub a dub and rinse...

Aquamarine stocks many templates for various Sea Rays. My swim platform was stock and came in 4 pads. Installation was easy, just have to be careful to clean the surface thoroughly. It is beautiful and drew many compliments at my marina. It's also very comfortable on the feet and doesn't get hot.

I'm thinking about doing the cockpit next, but would have to make a template for that.
