Hello & greetings.
My wife & I recently purchased a 2005 Searay Sundancer 260. We just learned that the holding tank is half full from the previous owners. We have an empty tank underneath it trying to operate the system & empty it into the one underneath. . “Newbies”.

I have both seacocks open & when I turn the key located next to the toilet the motor at the holding tank clicks. No pumping. I am wondering if the smaller thruhull line actually needs to be in water in order for the pumpout system to work properly?. We have no owners manual.

I am thinking I am simply not doing it right due to lack of knowledge. Can anyone educate us please?.

There should be a black button beside the key that must be held in to operate the macerator.

Was not aware of having to push the black button which there is one. Thank you. It ran at first but did not pump. Another attempt and it only clicks. I’ll try the button.

Why don't you get a pump out when you launch the boat? Is there a reason you would want to deal with others crap? Sounds like an odd activity to me.
The Steinhatchee river into the Gulf has no pump outs. None of the Marinas

Bad sensation to find out your overboard pump does not work when you are on the water. You are wise to get it working before you go in the water. Last year our tank was near full turned on pump. Made pump sounding noise but no discharge. Several tries and it worked. Changed duck bill valves in March they were in poor condition. Hope all works this summer.

Thru hull might be in closed position- no place for it to go when you turn on. Duck bills might be bad and not building vacuum.
The clicking noise is normal when pump is running, if it is a higher pitch clicking it might be because it is running dry and no water or waste to muffle the bellows.
There should be two pumps, one to drain the bowl and the other to pump out overboard. Do they both work?

It’s unconscionable to sell a boat with a full holding tank.

That said, every boat I’ve ever bought has had a full holding tank.

Every boat I’ve ever sold had an empty, deodorized tank and a spotless head.

What’s wrong with people?

:(

Well yesterday I took apart the housing the motor is connected to and notice a couple of the screws were loos & sucking air. Dropped the motor by accident then put it all back together & guess what?. It pumped out and holding tank is now empty lmao wow how cool is that!. Thank you everyone for ideas which got me charging thru the situation to end of up with success. All good!.

You probably need to get it checked out as it likely will not work again in the near future.
