Question. Where is this elusive fuse? I think that the pump froze during winter layup. I plan on replacing the pump with new. Both the float and pump are working when on my bench. We received 4in of rain last week, the bilge got a good wash.

Do you mean bilge PUMP fuse?

I'm confused as to why you are replacing it... you mentioned it works fine on your workbench... so there would be no reason to replace it. Pumps don't freeze on their own - a decent amount of water would have to have been left in the bilge.

There are two fuses for the bilge pump. For the auto function, that fuse is typically close to the battery it draws off of - just look at the wires coming off the batteries. For the manual function, that fuse is in the fuse box for your dash switches. BUT, with that said... the boat is 30 years old and may have had multiple previous owners... which means all bets are off and things could now be in different places.

Thanks for the info. Pump froze over a Minnesota winter. I had to spin by hand to get it to turn. The float switch works, but sinks when in the water, bad switch. As for ownership, I am the 3rd owner, not bad. Previous owner did awesome with the repairs and mechanical upgrades as needed. I can trace the wires back and see what is going on. I’ll also take an amp reading on the pump to see if it is over the 6.5amp rating.

checking my bilge operation today I found high water bilge works properly, main bilge works only with dash switch, so I should look for a fuse for float operation?
Thank

I’m going to say look for a faulty float. Mine was water logged and did not float. Switch portion worked when manually lifted. New one on order.

checked and found 12 volts to it nothing on the other wire when float is lifted, thinking bad float.

I found out what was wrong with mine. The battery had a bad cell and only 9 volts. The pump had ice in the impeller. Then the circuit breaker for the pump tripped out. I found it by tracing the wires out. Seems to be good now. Used the original pump after bringing it home to check it out.
