another boat explosion with fatalities,outboard

Columbia. Didn't look like a fuel dock. Any idea what the cause was.

The fire blew itself out and little to no smoke from the explosion. Alcohol stove explosion? Whatever it was...damn

I found this...

The maritime authorities investigate the causes of the accident in Colombia that left one dead and one injured

Medellin The explosion in a tourist launch, occurred this weekend in Necoclí, Antioquia ( Colombia ), left one person dead and one more seriously injured, according to the maritime authorities of the area.

The event, which was presented at the Necoclí Tourist Bullet at 12:27 p.m., occurred on the Saeta I tourism boat. According to Corvette Captain Juan Pablo Suárez, Captain of the Turbo Port, the vessel was being subjected to maintenance work when the explosion happened.

The people affected are two workers hired by that company, to do a welding job on the boat, which would have caused the explosion, according to the preliminary report of the authorities. However, the investigations are progressing to determine exactly what happened.

According to a report from the maritime authority, there was no knowledge of the permits requested to properly maintain the vessel, which suffered considerable damage.

“This activity did not comply with safety protocols, since no work should be done on tourist jetties, if not only in dikes when the boat is in a stranded position, more when welding work, the boat must be delastrated and without any fuel, “ Captain Suárez reported when referring to the issue.

The official recalled that it is important to strictly follow the safety protocols to avoid these accidents when performing maintenance. He added that a naval workshop is the company able to carry out repairs to systems, equipment or naval parts and naval devices, and that is where the work should be carried out.

I'm guessing gas welding but I have no idea of what you would gas weld on a boat. Leaving open an oxygen acetylene torch below deck would do the trick. If the fuel had blown.....there would have been a fire.

And that my friends is why there should be zero comparison of diesel vs gas. Diesel does not go boom and kill you.

I'm pretty sure that the accident in question was not a gasoline explosion. A gasoline explosion almost always is followed by a raging fire. I would agree gas boats are inherently more dangerous but this explosion was caused by something else.

I’m in the hazardous location equipment business. For what its worth, acetylene, commonly used for welding, is more explosive then gasoline. The report claims welding was involved.

In the video, I see no flame during the explosion, a tell-tail sign that gasoline was not the fuel for the explosion. I see no mention of gasoline being the reason for the fire.

OK. Let's see here. Not really wanting to be a critic - especially when there are casualties. But... there is a "full time DEDICATED" video running showing this explosion. Anyone see anything odd about that? And no, I do not believe that it is just the "standard" dock video. It was simply too concentrated on that boat.

News flash, there are cameras EVERYWHERE.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more camera views of this.

My vehicle has a three camera system. I’m considering adding something similar to my boat.

I keep a charged GoPro Hero Black 6 with compression clip mount on my vehicle center consul. In case of a event such as a vehicle accident, the camera will be turned on and clipped to my chest area before exiting the vehicle.

Yes, cameras are common today.

I agree, there are cameras everywhere. My 3500 has 360* cameras. It was a well worth the investment and has shown to be very worth itself. The truck has been hit twice, twice the person said it was my fault, one view of the data ends the issue fast
