Weather conditions are horrible. Launching is doubtful fo at least 10 days.
High water and flooding with much debris making a delayed season start.
Tell May to go away!!!
Anybody else in the same boat? (PUN)

This is the second worst boating season start in 50 years of owning a boat. We were out in the Niagara River today, but it was a lousy first cruise. The ice was gone, but Lake Erie debris still hadn't been completely purged. Logs, sticks and crap floating everywhere. Plus the water level was real high. If the launch ramp didn't have floating docks we wouldn't have gone out.

Here too. I’ve been trying to get my boat prepped for launch since April 1st, but weekend weather has been awful.

Beautiful out today so I finally finished buff and wax and painted the bottom. Batteries are charged, plugs are in...ready to go in tomorrow at 2 PM.

The forecast for tomorrow is 40 degrees, 90% chance of rain and gusty winds out of the north.

Uncovered my boat on 3/17, in the water early April moved it from the boatyard to my dock and it hasn’t left the dock since then.
Rain, wind, rain & wind......
Was windy all day today, raining now, and rain is forecast for the next 3 days.

Crappy weather at the west end of Lake Erie as well. Currently Lake Erie is 66" above low water datum and expected to rise above 80" lwd. The highest water level in decades.

At the marina today the workers were putting cinder blocks on the fixed docks so people could get to their boats. Fixed docks have been under water for a while.

I think it was warmer here in February then this past week.

Yep from Minnesota. Even when we launch we will be no wake for at least 2-3 weeks. I’ll take idle speed...allows me time to hit the cooler.

VA has been the same, windy wet weekends with high tides or very low water. I've seen whole trees floating in the river, they float down when the Islands near Richmond get flooded over.

On the other hand...

I used to travel for a living, and have been through many kinds of weather. We may be having wet weather now, and had an unusually cold Winter with record snow, but I am truly thankful for NOT having the following:

* floods that washed my house away.
* hurricanes that blew my house away.
* tornadoes that blew my house up.
* earth quakes that made my lot into a sinkhole.

The snow never made my roof collapse. The worst thing that happened to me was the Summer that FL had 3 hurricanes. My business dealings were in Fl that year and I had to rely on savings because I could not do my job and thus didn't get paid.

OK, rant over. No matter how bad it gets, there is always someone who has it worse. Right now the bright side is that there is more time to polish the boat...

It was not too long ago that folks were complaining about the drought and low pools. That was a time when we could walk our extended beaches and pick up debris that was there but invisible. Our particular beach was the site of a sawmill in the late 1800s early 1900s. I picked up countless broken beer bottles that had not seen the light of day in decades. We are enjoying the fruits of that work today. In 1986 we raised our dock and seawall. Glad we did as water levels are near that record again. As we reach the 1986 levels today I remember what followed that earlier event There was a gradual decline in water levels each year for many years. Probably that is what we will see during the coming 15 years as nature's cycle repeats.

We forced a trip to Martha’s Vineyard today for our annual mother’s day breakfast at Black Dog Tavern. It is cold, windy and raining. 2ft rollers pushing into VH harbor with the North wind. Funny, we see the same boats there each year doing the same tradition regardless of the weather. We had a nice breakfast and kids loved the ride so it was all good.

Been in NYC for a little over a week, been visiting with our daughter, sisters in law flew in for a weeks vacation, went out a couple of times with the future in-laws, admiral got to go to another Billy Joel concert and went to a few new places we have not been before. Had a great time. We were supposed to be heading up the Hudson today. That’s not happening.
Snug onboard. Beer’s cold, cabin’s warm and hockey game starting on the tube.

Screen shot of the buoy off NY Harbor, geez, is this May?

What it can’t show is how hard it’s raining sideways.
There’s always tomorrow.

A bad day is when you sold the boat and the new one has not arrived yet, so you can't go boating.

A good day is when you are snug as a bug and can't sail today, which means you added another day to your boatride.

Took advantage of the nice day yesterday knowing today would be nasty. Seas are 6+ in the sound. A few boats tried to make a run back to CT this am and afternoon and had to turn around. We’re going to leave the boat in LI and take the ferry home. At least we had 1 nice boating day thus far this season!
