I’m new to using heads. Just acquired a 240 SD with a Sanipottie that has a pump out plate on the deck. Instructions say to never add deodorant to holding tank through toilet bowl. It is technically a porta potty, but it’s fastened in place so I can’t tip on its front to fill holding tank. Do I pour deodorant through pump out plate at the deck? When is it best to add deodorant? After each pump out when holding tank is empty, or do I need to first pump/transfer a little water through bowl and into holding tank?

Directions show adding deodorizer when the unit is on the side. If your pump out hose is connected to that port, I suspect you can just add it to the pump out deck fitting. Maybe add a cup of water to help push it towards the unit.

What is the issue with adding directly to the holding tank?
You’re essentially doing the same thing by tipping it up and adding through the large cap.

Does the full strength deodorizer damage the rubber seal?

Open the hatch, pour it down. Then about a cup of water. It all goes to the same place. I have no idea why they recommend the way they do. In thirty years of dealing with pottys (my own or friend's), we have only ever poured it down the gullet.

When I had a boat with a porta potty, I just flushed deodorizer down the same way as the cause of the odor. I never did find something that actually worked well though. They are stinky little things. I found that the formaldehyde ones did not work well at all.
