Mast light for 380 Sundancer

I have a 2000 Sea Ray 380 Sundancer and I need a new mast light. The radar unit I have has a 4 ft bar on it. When the radar is on, the bar hits the Sea Ray OEM light mast, so I need a larger mast light that has the clearance. Like something from a 410 or larger. Does anyone know where I can find one or have one made?

Try bending it a little first, I think yours is tweaked. I had an '01 380 with the same radar and no issue, I'm sure one from a 410 is the same.
 
These are made specially for each year and model and are not available anywhere (that I could find). I had to bring my to a welding shop and have it repaired. The 410 and 380 may share the same design but the point is that there is no stock of them anywhere.
 
I agree with quality time - your light looks to be bent forward. Put some muscle into that thing and bend it back into shape, should be straight up. Take it off the boat before you start bending...

SECOND THOUGHT - When I looked at your photo for the 18th time it looks like your array may not be the original for a 2000. That pedestal looks too new. Did you recently replace it? If your array is further aft than stock by more than an inch or so you may be outta luck with the OEM light unless she reallly bends backwards. Do you have any adjustment to move the array forward?
 
I had the same problem when i installed a new radar. I cut the metal pole at the end of the straight section and mounted it to the right using an old GPS antenna bracket. So now it just sticks straight about 18" on the starboard side of my arch.

Your comment made me wonder about having an offset/non-centerline masthead light. Someone smarter than me will surely come along and correct this but I think you can only have non-centerline mounted masthead lights on boats below 12 meters long when "Inland". You're living on on the edge in your 360! And you would not be "International" compliant though I have no idea what that means :)

You're right, Rule 21 in the Colregs defines that a masthead light must be placed over the fore and aft centerline.

I'm only about 18" off center. Im sure as long as the mast light appears somewhat close to center between the navigational lights i am fine. If you are close enough to my boat at night to determine the the masthead is not centered i'm sure you are already aware i'm there and of my intentions.

No doubt. In the grand scheme of CSR Risk Avoidance Guidelines, Version 18.90 (as amended) this is probably no worse than using an iPad as your primary Navigation Aide. Surely much lower risk than running a Honda generator on your swim platform. :)

Just don't get hit at night. 18" (over 10% of your total beam) likely would be a big deal if/when the lawyers get involved. Especially on the ocean where there is no "as close as practical" allowance for a sub 12m boat. It's all or nothing out there apparently.

What if you remove the tube and swap it around , move bulb to opposite end. It looks like it might still be tall enough and definitely back far enough.
 
Hi, thanks for your reply. The light in the picture is from a 410, which is what I need to fit the 4 ft radar array on my 380.
 
I'm confused, do you have a picture of your mast light that's hitting the radar? The radars are the same on 380's, 410's 450's etc... so the light bar should all be the same.
 
I don't. The light works, it's just too short and has to be bent way back so the radar arm doesn't hit it when the radar is on. According to my local Sea Ray dealer, the my radar unit was an upgrade from the standard unit on a 2000 380. The standard units on a 380 are smaller and the radar arm is enclosed in a plastic dome. So, that is why I need something from a larger boat that has a radar unit like mine.
 
I had an '01 380 with the open array radar and the same light bar as the pic you posted. Mine came from the factory that way. The light bars are not so much boat specific as they are radar specific (open array vs closed dome). Either way you will most likely need to have one made.

You could also go with something like a Seaview radar mount/light bar combo but that's a lot of money and trouble just for a light.
 
Thanks. The Sea Ray dealer said they are custom made, can order one for $240. A little pricey, but if I can't find something used, then... Appreciate the feedback.

How much more room do you need for it not to hit?
 
You should be able to get a welder to cut the plug end off and weld on a small extension that will get you out far enough. You will need to cut the wire to the plug and crimp on an extension for that as well.

My shrink wrap guy snapped mine a few years ago. I used a 48” Perko plug in straight section and gently bent it using an electric conduit bending tool. Be gentle it’s very thin tube. I spent $60 on the light. You can see it in the photo. It’s actually a little taller than the original.
