Good day all. I have a 2006 Amberjack 290. This boat is new to me and I've only ran it a few times. I just put new cranking batteries and house battery in it(the batteries meet the required amperage). After running for a while I'll shut down the motors to drift or anchor fish. When I go to start, my chart plotter will shut down. This occurs when starting the port motor. I looked at the wiring diagram and it shows that the electronics are link to the port motors battery. I've tried starting the starboard motor first and running it at 1000 rpm till I see the volt gauge come up to 14, then I'll start the port motor and the electronics will still shut down. Any suggestions as to what can cause this and what would I need to do to correct it. Thanks for any help.

Run the electronics to the house battery instead. That's where they should have been when originally installed.

I was thinking of that. Thanks for the reply.

Unless you have an isolated "house" battery it will still happen. Most small boats utilize on of the engine starting battery as the "house" as well so when starting the voltage will momentarily drop low enough to cause the plotter to shut down. My Garmin will do this every time despite having 3 group 29 batteries that serve as both house and starting batteries on the starboard batteries. My previous Garmin plotters also did this. Seems like the nature of the beast so I just wait till after my starboard engine is running before I turn on the plotter.
