Funny what the survey missed. Boat is hauled out for engine work (leaking oil pan and other attention while out...). It was discovered that one prop is a Michigan Dynajet 16x17. The other is a yet to be determined brand by the prop shop, maybe Acme, 16x17 but with larger blade area and shape.

While I have been sorting out performance and RPM issues with the boat, matching props sure helps rule out things... what is a good prop size/pitch for this boat? From what I understand and have read on here, 16x17s were factory size props. Before I consider total both prop replacement to a new size, my plan is to just get another dynajet 16x17 to match them. The current dynajet is in great condition. The unknown prop has seen better days..

V-Drives. Twin 300hp (well maybe 300 after all the tuning and work is done...) Mercruiser 350 MAG MPIs

Thanks in advance for any info.

Regards

Ben

My 2002 with same hull, engines and V-Drives uses

17 x 19 x 1.5 medium cup Nibrals

How do they perform?

Can't complain. Factory spec says WOT should be between 4500 to 4800. I see around 4600 rpm which tells me these props are properly sized for my boat.

If your PO put smaller props on, he may have been trying to compensate for another problem.

That is the right size prop for your boat.
The 98-2000 came with that size .
The 2001-02 came with a 17x20 prop.
The gear ratio on the transmission for the 01-02 is 1.50-1.
I think the gear ratio is different for 98-00.
I would consult with a reputable prop shop to lead you in the right direction.

I'm looking into prop size also in order to improve performance. I have a 2001 310 with vdrives and the props are 16x15x1.5. My buddy has the same year etc. and his props are 17x20x2? apparently searay tried to improve performance and changed the transmission and the prop size? Any thoughts? Would the larger props be suitable for a 1.5 inch bore?

For comparison, my 2002 has 17 x 20 with 1.5" shaft. The transmissions are Hurth Marine Model HSW 630 VI-2.0
