460 DA Owners Thread

What wrong with the shower? Mine works perfect.

Ours is great as well.
I’m a little on the OCD side. The track for the door just gets a little gunk up after showering.

Funny thing is. The shower on the 460 was really one of the reasons we jumped from a 340 to the 460.

Has any of you 460 owners drilled a drain behind the captains chair in the floor? Just wondering. It is a pain in the butt when you wash the cockpit that the water pools behind on the floor.

Yes I did it last year.

Not a five minute job by any means, but I put a through-hull fitting up top (I sliced a piece off the rim so the hole was as low as possible to collect all the water), then ran a hose from the through-hull fitting and ran it out on the main cockpit floor. I did not want the water to drain into the storage area under the seats.

A cheap but very useful solution to a design fault that annoyed me everytime I cleaned the teak cockpit floor.

Can post a photo next week if needed, going down to the boat for 10 days on Sunday.

I would love to see your teak cockpit! I’m going to teak the swim platform I think.

As far as the shower: try the daily shower cleaner by scrubbing bubbles. We keep it in the shower and spray it down after each use. You literally just spray it and walk away. It works like a champ!

We have the same issue with the shower door track. Challenging to clean in one area so I will either try Q-tips or the cleanser mentioned above. I agree that the shower is a nice feature on this boat.

BTW, I finally installed that larger 2 gallon accumulator tank mentioned in another thread. Had to use a "Starboard" mount because the tank mounting itself was too difficult to access without the backer. Anyways, it works great and is set to 37 psi (3 psi below the cut-in pressure of the Shurflo pumps.) The pumps run less now with no banging at all. The two gallon tank fits nicely where the original one litre tank was.

Hi Guys,

New to the forum. We're getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2001 460. Brand new brown canvas has never seen the outdoors. Wondering if anyone wants, or knows someone who wants, to trade the light brown trade for new or newer black? If not, perhaps you could suggest another forum to trade and or a reputable canvas maker who won't gouge us. Thank you in advance. Can't wait to share my and borrow from the collective knowledge here...

Walter

I would suggest you just list the canvas in the classifieds section and have a black canvas custom made.

Welcome to the group! Let's see some pics of your new boat and the engine room with those Awesome 3208's!

We moved to Texas from Milwaukee so not too far from where you are. Good news is you will have plenty to work on this winter while it’s in storage! This forum is amazing. Lots of great stuff on here and the people are great! The 460 is a classic boat with an awesome appeal and we are all excited to see your pics.

You know.... you could bring it South for the winter!

Hi all, I'm having my props done and am seriosly considereing having them pitched according to the fuel burns that Tony from SeaBoard recommends for the 480CE (450 fuel curve). I've read through all of Tony's articels and have spoken with him (very helpful individual).

Has anyone reduced the prop-pitch accordingly and if so, how much cruise speed did you loose? Any thoughts on engine experiences/failres in our boats (DA460), as the other posts in the forum seem to favor issues/failures associated with the DA390s?

Any help is appreciated as always.

I had mine done last winter. Depending on how many RPMs you need will dictate if you change the pitch
or the cup. We ended up taking just a little cup out. It was amazing the difference it make in the engines
at lower RPMs and cruise. The engines felt more alive and happy. We didnt see any loss of speed at cruise or WOT.

Good Luck

Thanks Phillip fior the response!

How did you measure your needed rpms? The way I understand, in the 480CE, it's electronically governed, so the WOT RPM calibration method isn't an option. I'm being told to use GPH at 2200 RPM as the method by which to measure prop adjustment (prop adjust to 13.6 GPH).

I'm wondering, if I set 13.6 gph/engine and record the RPMs, then give the prop shop the required RPM increase, if it will yield a correct prop adjustment?

Any thoughts?

The suggested 2700 WOT rpm cannot quite be achieved, but you should be able to hit the governed rpm of 2680 with the boat fully loaded. As I propped my 460 I ended up with a set of Acme's at 24x25. This allowed the loaded boat to easily hit the governor limit and closely follow the 450 fuel curve. The boat was a bit under propped, but I was looking for that.

Charlie,

Mike hit it on the head. When I started I was only getting 2600 max RPM on the starboard and 2590 on the port.
I originally asked the prop shop to take some pitch out and they said that would be to much and they could be
more precise and get me the 80-90 RPMs with a little cup removal. After hitting the 2680 I checked the fuel burn
on the chart and they hit the numbers perfectly

Anyone know how to access the port windshield wiper motor?
Thanks

If I remember correctly, I saw it when I pulled the fridge out and was working back there and looked up and forward. I also think you can reach it through the speaker above the microwave, but that would be limited access.

There are also access panels behind the microwave, but not sure 100% if you could reach the motor from there either.
