My SIMRAD go5 unit is not reading depth. My SeaRay has just over 22 hours on it and has been having this issue with depth from the start of ownership.

Very inconsistent readings and over the last month not reading at all and two weeks ago only 3 dashed lines are displayed.

The unit has performed perfect other than this issue...Transducer is reading temperature so not sure it could be transducer, maybe a wire came loose but I have Had no luck trouble shooting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

If it's a transom mounted transducer, usually that means the dealer didnt install it low enough to make sure it's always in the water. My 175 Sport had that issue and the dealer moved it down a bit to solve the inconsistencies.

I have the same boat and probably the same thru hull transducer. It has a dual range frequency (50 or 200 KHZ) and it defaulted to the 50 setting (needed for deep water).

As soon as I went into the setup program and switched it to 200 KHZ all worked fine.

This is great information thanks so much I’ll get into the settings tmmrrw and give it a try.

Thank you !!!

I’m wondering if a factory reset will accomplish same thing

I've got that same Simrad and have similar problems. With a p-79 Airmar it loses contact with the bottom in shallow water, just when you need it the most. Simrad said no cure for that setup.

We bought the boat brand new. It would have been set to factory specs at the beginning. That's why I thought the 50 KHZ was the factory setting.

Ours now reads down to about 1.3 feet before it stops reading.

I checked the ducer to get the model number, just to verify it was indeed a dual unit, but I don't remember what model it was now.

Update....just got back from the water, I factory reset my simrad go5 and it is NOW reading depth again. Turns out I was resetting my unit incorrectly.

So, your main screen should display temp, depth, etc. It also shows the ducer KHZ. What does it show now?

Was that what you were looking for? Oddly now however..:not reading water temperature... not really too concerned about that but defntly need to get this unit dialed in better for more consistent results.

Yes, you at 200 KHZ, which is what you should have for shallow water.

I see you are reading metric. Is that what you want? Not that it makes any difference.

I received no Simrad documentation with the boat, which was a disappointment. I was able to download a manual, but the content and completeness was lousy.

I guess you just have to go thru all of the menus step-by-step and find out how to set up each parameter. I personally won't do a factory reset on anything because it removes any needed changes you made.

I didn’t receive any documents with boat as well. I don’t want metric and I can’t get an answer for what actual Airmar transducer I have ...Ill keep playing with it to see all of its capabilities and get it set up how I want. I switched temperature to F from c and now the water temp is stuck on 32 degreesat least I have depth...I think I’m going to continue to factory reset it and go through the advance personal set up

You can see the top of the ducer from inside the sunpad enclosure. Look down with a flashlight and you can read the model number.

I’ve taken pics of it and have model # but can’t track down the part

The transducer itself on the bottom of the boat… I’m pretty sure is a B series… It’s brass

Yep, I had it narrowed down to about 3 models so that helps out.

Fast forward almost a year, still intermittent transducer and or Simrad issues. Now I get a depth reading probably 50% of the time I’m in the boat, no continuity whatsoever in regards to whether I’m going up on plane or idle sometimes it just reads for five minutes and goes off then other times that I read for 15 minutes, but I have no idea what’s going to happen each time I turn it on, I have a guy coming out to hopefully test my transducer next week
