My boat renovation.

As much as we are looking forward to getting her into the water next year we are enjoying the process.
Ya... That's not going to work for us ...we are a little impatient :)
Just kidding ...you have a monumental task there without a straight line in sight. Looking forward to watching your progress.... Thanks for sharing it.

Funny you should comment on the lack of straight lines. That is our task for this weekend.... Choosing the lines on the hull interior that will eventually become our finished walls.

I will be following this one. I have a 1990 Sundancer 310 that the Mrs wants to update. My biggest concern is with the V birth headliner. The rest I can do with a little help from the Mrs. Funny thing, I maintain the equipment that makes the spendy 3M sealant. I asked if I could bring home a paint can full of the stuff. Security said no.

That sealant is fantastic but expensive. I am looking at different options for the headliner and should have something on my blog within the next 3 weeks. You face the same weather issues I have. I have 2 more weeks...maybe 3 to get all of the interior plywood and fastening strips on before it gets too cold to cure properly.
Thanks for following along.

Have you looked into the Taco Marine headliner track system? That was the route I was looking into. Just don’t know how the transition from flat to the curved step area would look in the V birth. Wish I could bring mine home to work on. Driveway is not long enough for that.

Awesome website and a very well narrated blog. The 460 is the perfect platform for this restoration and you guys are animals for taking on such a monumental project and saving this classic. The fact that I am procrastinating installing a teak and holly floor in the cabin of our boat because of the work involved really makes me feel like a big p***y after seeing this. Keep it up and looking forward to following your progress.

If I didn't have my brothers working with me...and a very understanding wife...this wouldn't be happening. We push each other and have fun working together.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.

Redid my 90 280 liner with hull blanket style from sailrite. Really wasn't all that bad aside from the mess and looks great IMO.

Hello everyone. This past summer I, along with one of my brothers, purchased a 1987 460 Express Cruiser with the intention a doing a bit of work on it to turn it into a floating cottage. As with any project like this it took on a life of it's own. My two other brothers have joined us to work on it as well. We are having the best time on this project.
I have a blog now that I post regular updates on.

Your blog is excellent - thank you for posting! It has been fun to follow the progress the last few weeks. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Your blog is great! The electronics access is one of the things I wish boat builders would pay better attention to. I saw one boat where the helm on the fly deck lifted up and you had complete access to the electronics. Much easier than on my sea ray where it’s hard to work on items while lying down between the captains chair and the helm, or removing panels. It looks like you built (or are building) an access panel. or did the boat come with one and you are just replacing it?https://my1987searay.com/

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and comment. We will be replacing the access panel and blending it in with the cabinets. The electronics are very accessible for us but the panel really takes up a lot of room for sure. We most likely won't be getting to that until around February or March as we are going to have all of the existing wiring replaced.
Please keep following along and comment if you would like.

Nice cover structure!
Thank you for commenting. Might as well build it right. We aren't quite finished and it is being measured tomorrow. We are expecting about 15 cm (almost 6") of snow tonight which is going to cause some issues. We don't normally get any accumulation of snow until late December.

Beside the fact that your doing this project... a undertaking on its own. I think it is really cool that your taking a great older boat and going to be modernizing the cabin and cockpit. I cant wait to see how you do the cockpit and helm.

These old boats are great but I think why they get abandoned are the the dated interiors and that scares people away.
This will be a great watch over the winter months.

What talent your friends and family has!

I did the same thing with my house. 90 year old house that was badly in need of some major work. Over 20 years now and I am still working on it. I loved the look of this boat from the moment I saw it. I'm looking forward to what we are going to do as well. We have a basic idea but are also making it up as we go along. Glad that you are continuing to follow along. Lots more to come. There is about 4" of snow on it at the moment

You guys are doing some amazing work restoring one of the nicest boats Sea Ray made.
