Last summer we were on the Mississippi and pulled into a lock behind a big pontoon boat that from the looks of it was having a bachelor party and hired some strippers. They were partying like it was 1999! My 10 year old son was standing on the bow of the boat holding the rope when one of the strippers stood on the back of the pontoon and flashed him.He looked at my and rolled his eyes.

No, the whole on-shore operation was done by Lampson. The on-water part was handled by Tidewater Barge Lines.

The subs are dismantled at the Navy's Bremerton, WA shipyard. The reactor cores are encased in concrete then loaded on a barge and pushed around the coast of WA. Then they continue their journey up the Columbia River to Richland, WA where the unloading is done before they're trucked to the burial site.
 
I crept up on a small tri hull runabout that was adrift in a stiff wind and headed for a stone breakwater.

I checked it out with binoculars from a distance and it seemed that nobody was on board, but when I got alongside and looked down I saw a very distracted couple doing the horizontal mambo between the seats.

While he didn’t appreciate the interruption, he sprung into a different kind of action when he saw the rocks.

As you can see, the deck of the barge is several feet above the level of the dock so they simply started to fill the barge with water until it sank down to where both dock and barge deck were level.

In this next shot they are using the crane to lift a lifting strap over the top of the core. I'm not sure but I think this is to hold the core down while they are jacking it up so it doesn't flip into the river.

As you can see in this pic they have lowered the barge so people and equipment can easily go from land to the barge.

Here's the core loaded onto the crawler they use to transport it. All of this equipment is owned and operated by Pacific Transport, a division of Lampson Crane which is headquartered here in Pasco.

View attachment 77366 Here's the core moving toward the burial site. Look closely at the gravel road. Shortly before they started the move the entire road was sprayed down to eliminate any dust. The road itself is graded before they us it and IIRC there are no more than 1/2" elevation change (bumps in the road) within a 1/4 mile stretch. The truck making the tow moves at a crawl speed and they have a man at each side walking along to make sure nothing goes wrong.

I bet that was quite a large delivery fee....
 
Buddy and myself are going under a bridge and this boat comes idling past - mama is showing off what appeared to be a new set of boobs, she was putting them through their paces - all the while me, and my buddy just stared in amazement. Neither she or papa seemed a bit bothered by us - like they were showing off a new car or something - I guess when he told her they were going motor boating, he wasn't kidding. I never think to snap a picture of these things, I guess I just enjoy the moment - all this on LKN!

And on a more interesting note, I once saw a deer swimming across LKN, he was at least 1/2mi from shore, just cruising along. It was in the fall, so maybe he got distracted following the scent. Not that he looked like he needed help, but don't think trying to pull a big ole buck into the boat during mating season would work out well.
 
Nothing I really thought was weird but we always have tugs and barges running around us. See them pushing barges up against the shore wall. We also have a large dredge on the Ohio that runs all the time. They have a small pontoon that they taxi around with. Shell is also building a cracker plant (fracking) right down river from us and they had some very large objects they were barging around last year. We also have a small pontoon called the Tiki Hut. No engine. Just a small shelter with double hung windows and T-111 siding. It stays at the dock.

Boatman, we got the tiki huts, normal to us but not everywhere but don't have no pictures
 
These aren't the tiki's they have in Pittsburgh. This is just a small pontoon somebody bought and built to hang out on. I heard it has a fridge and a big flat screen inside but I have never seen anyone on it. It sits on the Beaver River in Bridgewater.

One of our local restaurants just sold one of its docks, replete with Tiki hut and water slide. Here it is on its way to the lucky new owner.

We had a floating snack bar built on a pontoon boat that would patrol our boating area. I never got a picture of it. On the side it said "Don't be a meany, buy your kid a weenie". :p
 
On the Potomac River last fall.
