Inspect your shackles.

One thing that probably gets overlooked on a trailer is the spring shackles and bolts. They wear out over time and need to be replaced periodically. I just replaced mine and this is what they looked like.
 
Looks like it was time. Good advice to check them.
Also keep an eye on the bolts and locknuts.
I had one come off on a brand new trailer inside of 1000 miles. Scared me to say the least. Could have been very bad had I had farther to travel. I replaced all the locknuts with new and used locktite as well. No issues since.
 
I think I'll do a full trailer inspection this winter. I should have time and will make time to check this all out. I never thought about worn out shackles and with the miles we drive (1,000 plus) per year it's probably time! The trailer was built in 2004 and has held the boat ever since, so it's probably time to take a closer look.
