Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

That’s a lot of canvas there Strecker! WOW!:)

Here’s my ole girl tucked away in my nice warm shed for the winter.

Had to drop the arch to squeeze her through the 12ft door.

Let the winter projects begin!View attachment 76121View attachment 76122

Yeah, its very heavy especially alone :)

Looks like she's nice and warm. How bad was it tipping the arch over? I've had to tighten the nuts and they were pretty easy to get to, but I imagine it's heavy.

Actually not too bad, but it is heavy. Scootching it back a few inches before leaning it forward was the hairy part. I put a ratchet strap across the inside of the arch to pull the legs in a couple of inches. This gave me enough security to make sure it didn't fall off the outside of the boat as we walked it back. Leaning forward was easy. I built a stand that sits on the lounger and props the arch up. That should rest there all winter without issue.

A couple more feet on the barn trusses would have been really nice, but our township gets pissy for some reason when we try to put 14ft doors on our barns.

Anyone replace their shower sump box? Mine is gross and a little cracked so I’m just going to go new. Wondering which one you bought

Just posting some pictures of new carpet which is under progress.
Had to do templates myself as I did not have any old carpet.
Just some sewing and snap fasteners left.

So im getting ready have mine redone. Everything i saw was a 1 piece carpet. I currently have the 4 piece and like it. Easy enough to just lift motor hatch without undoing any snaps. Do u see a problem with the 1 piece

The hatch like you said. It’s a pia as one piece. I check our oil and stuff before every run and we also have a table in so I had to pull the table to get the carpet up. I did 2 pieces when we have carpet so all I had to was unsnap the left and right corners to lift the hatch

Yeah. I also check before every run. Gonna stick with the 4 piece. Bringing to a local guy and having him use as a template. My old carpet backing just denigrated. Gonna do like others said and spray a rubber backing on it to save as a spair

Its a 2 piece, not clear from the pictures though.
Had to make template from scratch, was a pia, tried to keep it simple as possible

Thinking of going to the grey berber. Just not sure if it will be too dark

As there is kids in the boat I picked a darker type. Bought it at a local market in Sweden.
It´s an inhouse carpet, I probably have to put silicone on the backside or similar

Looks great, awesome job. Is that teak in the cabin?

Yes but only on the stairs, some on the swimplatform aswell though.
Not sure yet what to do in the cabin

Its indeed nice, but it doesnt fall by itself. Considering a bigger anchor..

Not sure how you did see the single lever xD, but you are correct.
Its repowered by a volvo penta 8,1L , 375 HP from 2011. Electronic shifting, so awesome. Have to rev it to 3700 - 3800 for it let go which is high for cruising, gives me abt 27 mph. Top around 36 mph with my typical load. How abt yours?
Would love more power but service wise singlepowered is unbeatable.

JA, do you still have the Bravo III behind that new 8.1ltr?

Those numbers are similar to my 454 MPI, but it looks like you are pushing a lot more HP.

And YES, servicing is a dream on that big single motor.

No its a volvo penta DPA.

Will try coming summer not to run with full water and almost full gastank.
Also have generator, AC, 2 windlasses, dinghy which adds someweight.
At onepoint I managed to maintain abt 28 mph at 3500 which is where I wanna be.
But it takes alot of playing with the trimtabs and drive trim.

Another question, the former owner did empty the AC of refrigerant. Can I run it without just for the heat? Or does this damage the compressor. I´ve heard the refrigerant works as lubrication but not sure.
Guess I have to check with some AC expert to really know.

The refrigerant has oil in it. The unit reverses the cycle to provide heating. So without refrigerant, the unit will not produce heating or cooling. So either have the AC serviced, or run with another source of heat.

You guys alive over here? Pretty quiet bunch of 290 owners this winter.:D

I'm doing a bunch of improvements and upgrades this winter.

The next one is sealing that damn leaky trunk. Going to try some different rubber seals and I'll post when I get one to work.

Steering cable is almost done, she's got LEDs all the way around now, new fresh water pump and a FishHawk added. Picking away at the ole girl this winter.
