Fusion is D.O.A

It looks like this has become somewhat of a Fusion thread, so I have a question. I specifically bought the newer fusion SRX400 for its ability to stream wi-fi, rather than bluetooth, thinking we would not have the distance limitations of bluetooth. I stream Amazon music via cellular on my ipad or iphone in our cockpit to the SRX400 in the salon via wi-fi.

While anchored, we are getting drop outs a lot of the time. I think it is the wifi connection and not cellular. Anyone else seeing any wifi streaming issues?

Could it be your cell signal that’s dropping out? I’ve been streaming to both Apollo’s for the season and never had it drop out. we also stream from a loaded touch with my wife’s library on it and it’s flawless this avoids bad cell signal issues
I do stream Amazon music still no issues.

So this was a weekend on the island on B dock.... Rap was screaming ....we were right in the middle of this nightmare. We have a pretty wicked stereo on the boat ...So I thought I would teach everyone a Zepplin lesson.... No way my phone would connect to this system... So I grabbed my wife's iphone which was newer and connected right away and all she had on it was country... Damn... Cranked it anyway. After 15 minutes all was quiet when we turned it down... I won with country...not a real win :)

country is ALL we listen to now for years. I’ve listened to classic rock for over 40 years and frankly I’m sick of the same songs over and over. Sorry country boy here but good for you for the win!

What am I missing? Isn't Ohio like everything else east of the Mississippi in the north engulfed in snow?

ps I've found Italian opera is equally effective.

I don’t use a wifi or cellular connection to do that but I have the same problem accomplishing this with Bluetooth.
Streaming from my iPhone or iPad to my Fusion from the cockpit is hit and miss with drop outs even with keeping the cabinet door open to expose the Fusion.
I’ve chalked it up to be more of a physical layout problem with the 410. Probably too much obstruction from the dash and helm area.
My solution would be to run a Bluetooth extender from the head unit to the cockpit but I never got around to doing it.
Instead, I keep the iPad (with cellular plan) in the salon and stream to the Fusion from it. Works great. Even with that cabinet door closed.

John - Avoiding bluetooth is the exact reason I got the SRX400.

Joe - next time I anchor at Lake Boca, I will double check my cell connection to confirm it is or isn’t an issue with the Fusion wifi.

Thanks.

My only complaint with the Apollo series head units so far is you can’t stream music and use Party bus mode it has to be music from a device that is plugged into the head unit or over the air music etc. wife likes to have the Itouch close to skip songs etc.
we also stream Amazon music so I’m hoping a software update one day will fix that.

The bigger cockpit space with Sundancer styling works best for the kind of boating we normally do, but the downside is that the cabin is a cave.
My iPhone 8 gets a really weak cell signal inside my cabin and almost non existent WiFi signal in there when I’m at a transient marina with WiFi, but my iPad gets a slightly stronger signal with both in the cabin.
Probably because of a bigger antenna built in to the iPad.

Get a $20 amazon signal booster. They work well to fix that issue below.

I bought and returned a fusion for this and other reasons. I ended up using my Axiom MFD with a Spotify app streaming via Bluetooth to a $100 head unit I mounted in the dash. There are a lot of ways to stream these days. Data comes from a netgear 4G modem I installed in the arch. I also use this data to stream YouTube TV to the TVs on the boat.

I'm not following? This is a small repeater. It takes your marina wifi and rebroadcasts it so your devices can use the signal.

Thanks!
Transient marinas around here have notoriously unreliable WiFi but I may give that thing a try next season.
I don’t have WiFi at my own dock.
It would be great if I could find something similar that would help pull a stronger cell signal in to my cabin.
I have an unlimited data plan on iPad and use it to stream and as a hotspot.
My cell service inside the cabin at my own dock is very bad and even in places where I get 5 bars of service in the cockpit the service deteriorates rapidly once I go down in to the cabin.
My carrier is AT&T, but guests who have other carriers experience the same thing when they go down in to the cabin.

OK I follow you now, it's the data signal, not the wifi that's your issue.

Ok, I think my Appolo has a real issue now. The situation has gotten worse, no output, it no longer will switch from one source to another, and I can not get it to do a update.

For those looking to update their system, I still love this unit and would recommend looking into it for your system upgrade.

I received my replacement MS 755 AV and installed using my existing wires from the Clarion system. The replacement unit works great. I love the BT functionality. I tested it from the bridge as well as about 75 feet down the dock. Every thing seemed to work as advertised. I think I need to replace the Salon TV with one with ARC compatibility to allow the TV audio to play throughout the boat though.
I cut a new marine board mounting panel and installed my salon thermostat in the panel as I installed a ships clock over the original position.

Carpe- if you can run the wires easily enough, that 755 Fusion has rca inputs you can use for your tv instead of trying to connect through hdmi ARC to get audio back to the 755 from the tv. I would still run your other components through the Fusion. Might be a lot less hassle than replacing the tv. But then again, tv's are cheap these days...
