Ok, I’ve done The Great Loop once (so far) as well as traveled over 20,000nms. I’ve been using a product called NEMO which is a hard wire device no whereas it was just by cell phone before that had to be manually started & stop. Now with the hardwired system it’s all automatic. Below is a picture of the last travel leg to KW Sunday from Ft Lauderdale to KW. This is just a quick snap shot of the map but there is more info it provides sent to you by email automatically when the boat starts moving and then when stopped.

I have no financial ties or interest with NEBO other than being a happy early user through its process as a boater. To be honest I don’t recall where I heard about it but happy I did and have it installed. They are a sponsor on the AGLCA (America’s Great Loop Cruising Association) and offer a discount to those whom join the AGLCA. Best I recall it was under $325 for the first year which covers the hardware they ship you and the first year cellular & software to run. I think then it’s like $125+- a year after that but don’t quote me on that. My intent is to spread the NEBO name & General info for others whom might be interested in knowing about the product for you to do your own research.

Again I use it and have no financial interest of which I wish I did! I’m going to copy this and send to NEBO to see if they want become a CSR Sponsor as well?

We use the Nebo app on the cell phone. AGLCA uses it to replace the meets app to see and meet up with other loopers.
Can use it similarly but I’m sure it must not be as versatile because it’s free, at least for the loopers. We used it during our trip south last year to find other loopers, then contact them to meet up.
Above is a live screen shot of some boats in Ft Myers that I just grabbed for this post. (regular nebo markers are just white dots) would be cool if we could have CSR logos with our screen names rather than boat names I have no idea what it would take to do that.

I’m scheduled to have a phone conversation with NEBO rep on Tuesday so I’ll ask about the CSR tagging. I as well used the original free cell phone version app and the quirks of the earlier version required starting & stopping the system which worked but often times got over looked, late started/stopped and incomplete results. My bad but never the less the fully automated system eliminated those hiccups. In addition the addition automatic email when the boat takes off and wella you know have notification that your boats on the move with a tracking device. I call that another quick notification that ya might have a theft in process and where to start heading to catch your boat!

John doesn’t AIS do the same thing? I can look at my track and I get emails when my boat enters and leaves a port
Although, there has to be a station to repeat the signal but haven’t missed one yet traveling from NY to Fla.
and it’s Free. Thoughts?

How about posting a picture or details so we can compare. While I have AIS on my Garmin i’v not see anything like what posted on the NEBO. I like free as much as the necrotic guy so I’m wide open. I don’t think AIS has a capability to send me any emails or act to notify me if my boat has a five finger discount being applied by someone.

Please post something we can take a look at as I’m always looking to learn more.

I’ve used the marine traffic website for a long time and I have to say it’s very clunky on IOS devices there is free information available but seems “tracking” only goes back a day or so.
The free version does email me every time my boat leaves or enters a port or passes a station.
heres a few examples of the info avail

I’d say for free that’s not terrible but I’ll stay with NEBO as I consider the cost to be minimal especially once you have the hardwares.

My previous experience with the AIS Marine tracker was in 2016 on the Great Loop. It had very poor capability unless you where on coastal areas and often was lagging hours behind the boat. In the inland waters was considerably worse and often none at all. Glad to hear they’ve improved but still believe from above there very lacking in comparison IMHO !

Merry Christmas to all & to all a Good Night

John I looked more into NEBO and it looks great I downloaded the app to try and I think I’ll install the hardware on the boat as well I like the fact that my family can all get notified when we move. Thanks for bringing it up.

I'm simple I guess. I just use Find My (formerly Find Friends) on my phone for those few people I want to know where I am.

Ya welcome as I’ve requested NEBO rep my communicate with Jim at BOE to see about becoming a sponsor and seeing what they might be able to put together for us. I believe this would benefit all of us whom travel around. The security side with email sent when the boat moves so far is a side benefit but provides me with additional comfort. I have a tracking device on out tender which is one of the most common theft items out there along with other boats.

One high dollar Center console that had the same Tracker tracking device as I have on my tender was recently stolen. The owner posted on FB if I recall correctly that he got notified the boat moved but then quickly lost the bread crumbs tracking. He posted pictures of the boat and was asking for help locate the boat.

While NEBO to my knowledge does push the device as such I consider it to be another side benefit that I like.

Hope you all and others whom read this Fourm have, had a Beautiful Christmas Day with family and friends as we are here today. We look forward to another great boating season in 2020 and hope anyone whom will be in KW this winter give me a shout out do we might me and toss back an Ice Tea or something.

I’ve also included a quick snapshot off of one of our onboard security cameras which provide another level of security and notification of such. You’d be surprised when you’re traveling the number of people in very public places that might step on you boat for a picture or peak when someone is not around?

Merry Christmas and to all a Great 2020

John what are you using on the RIB? Also cameras are great I saw a boat detailer shut down my electric in FLA while I was in NY and called the marina to make sure It was put back in.

Not sure of you’re question what you’re asking. Ring Stickup camera mounted below bridge deck above sliding door. Tender is a Hghfield OceanMaster 390 Aluminum hull with 40HP four stroke Honda sitting on Hurley H30+. Hope this answers you’re ?

Sorry you stated your using a tracking device on the tender just wondering if your using 2 NEBO devices ?

Nope, I put a Spot Tracker on last year before heading to the Keys as tenders are hot targets in the Keys and islands. You see the tender in the water behind the boat last winter in the Keys. I also have a 25’ 3/8” steel cable with hardened lock run through the engine & center console asa deterrent for Islands and time I’ll be out of site of the tender. Probably a little over cautious but Aluminum hull inflatables with 40HP have a Market in the Islands
