268DA and Weekenders

Looking for prop advice for my 454 alpha one 268 da. I value efficient planing and hole shot, top speed not so much. Thanks for any thoughts on this

I'm reading you're 16 from ground to top of keel roller and 20 1/2 from ground to top of inner bunk is this correct
Sounds right but I'm back at the home office, so I'll measure with a level for higher accuracy

Hey Steve. I had the same boat with engine/drive combo as yours. After testing several props, the 16x16 prop is hands down the best combo for that boat. Gets on plane quickly, stays on plane at low RPM's and top speed will be at 31-32mph with good cruising speed at 25mph at about 3200rpm.

Thanks man, just a couple questions
3 or 4 blade, aluminum or stainless?

3 blade aluminum - Michigan Wheel

I went through the stainless props for that drive setup without much success.

Good luck!

Hello. Just got my first big boat '88 268 Weekender last October. Love it. Glad to see there are more of the same out there. Found oil leak in my tilt/trim reservoir and replaced it with some electrical help from one of the other members. Cleaned up all the old oil, leaves, and misc junk that had accumulated under the engine when I dewinterized. Feeling alot better about that now. I've had the boat out twice so far and runs great. Sure goes thru gas though and the gas gauge does not work so I have to gas plenty before trips. Need to buff and clean some more but really thinking hard about a winter repaint. Other projects are redo bimini (replace broken ss and new fabric, maybe add an arch, and definetly a camper top, redo inside radio, add radio outside, repair one exposed rotted area in the engine compartment, etc, etc. Oh well, I'm still having fun with it. If anybody needs advice on replacing their hydraulic hoses for the tilt/trim pump, I have some useful tips. I learned the hard way. Will try to load some pictures, having a bit of problems doing that but I'll figure it out. Safe boat all---------- Tom
Hey Tom, I know this is a long shot, but I blew my trim tab lines this week, what was your advice?

Hey y'all! Had anyone tried installing the teak look rubber/foam type decking over the textured rather slippery factory deck? It is pretty humid here and I don't want to deal with smelly carpet!!

When I get to it, I'll post some pics and narrative of how it goes
It's really surprising easy. I made templates from heavy kraft brown paper (like the rolls from Home Depot). Cut with scissors and utility knife. Before applying, I laid down the edge on top of a piece of scrap wood and ran a 1/4 trim router around it with a 45 Degree bit to give it a softened look.
Take it slow. Clean and dry floors well to remove all wax and dirt. Be sure that the grooves in the material are in-line and straight before applying.
Good luck~
