I have read a lot about trim fault warnings jamming out the Smartcraft instrument. The right way of solving the problem is probably to change the trim sender on the outdrive, alternatively to re calibrate the SC trim setting. Is it a way to get rid of the warning without doing the above mentioned operations? I don’t need the trim pitch to be announced, I know what I need, and it trims well. I just want the fault warning not to pop up on my instrument, because it doesn’t allow me to enter other pages in the menu. I plan to change the trim sender after the season, but want to combine the job with servicing the outdrive.

Are you getting actual warnings or just that the trim position number pops up for a few seconds and takes over the display temporarily but often enough to be a pain?

I guess the last is my problem. I try to select other pages with the mode selector, but trim always override the display. Could of course try to turn trim off in the Cal 1 setup. It does not show any actual trim numbers. Trim 0-10 or 25 are not present, and that may be because of faulty trim sender.

I had a digital trim sender do this a few times, then went completely dead. I purchased a new trim sender ~9 months ago. End of last season the trim sender starting giving intermittent changes again overriding the display. Most times it would just change by 1-2 numbers, but once I even saw it go all the way up to 25, then back down.

I called Mercruiser since it was within warranty 12 month period. They claimed they never heard of this behavior and that it was likely the boat wiring. Obviously since replacing my 1st one solved the problem immediately, I don't trust the technician's explanation.

I never tried the smartcraft disable, but this seems to be the workaround to avoid the annoyance. Get the smartcraft manual for more information on how to work the menu system.
