what is everyones experience with boosted wifi antennas and related equipment. We are at a marina wifi is ofcourse atbthe ship store and probably weak at best distance is approx 600-1000 ft we get a faint signal at the boat nothing usable

Our marina has multiple booster antennas spread throughout (maybe 6) to get signal out to the further docks. It's moderately good except on busy weekends.

thanks ..seems everyone that works at our marina wear aluminum foil hats to protect from aircraft contrails spraying mind altering chemicals so I dont think they will be evolving to that extent..so its an individual effort at this point

Mark, my Rogue Wave does a pretty good job of picking up weak signals and boosting tem to my onboard router...

Thanks so much, Im sure this is ever evolving technology. I will be installing this tech in the coming days. im glad to hear yours works great. Im hoping for the same results.

There are always two parts to this equation. 1 - can you get a good signal to the marina's access point and 2 - can they support the bandwidth requirements needed at the marina. There are many time I have been able to get a great wifi signal at a marina and yet get horrible bandwidth out to the internet and have had to switch to my cellular LTE.

Thanks Kevin,
Im sure as i add capability I will learn capacity

Do you have a system that can both boost a Wifi signal, and use a cellular signal when there's no Wifi? I've been futzing around looking for how to get internet on the boat and this kind of system has appeal. I did find one such product but it was really expensive.

Exactly. Everyone at my marina should buy me a beer this spring. I work for a cable company and pulled some strings to have more hot spots installed right next to our docks along with opening up the bandwidth. As to the question about WIFI. I installed a Rogue Wave along with a wireless router in the boat. This works for a bunch of things. I'm finishing up my setup, but it looks something like this.

i see the netgear is the rest rogure hardware

I’ve never had good luck with WiFi in any marinas I’ve visited.
If it works well, then there are too many people on it.
I live and boat in a pretty densely populated area.
I’ve had much better luck relying on cellular data for streaming using my iPad (with unlimited data plan) as a hotspot for my TV’s.
I was looking in to some sort of cellular booster to bring in a stronger signal when I’m out of range but I’ve decided to hold off to see what comes down the pike with 5G.

I have Tito's wifi, works great. Dockmate a couple of boats down has the satellite and wifi - I provide a handle of Tito's every other month and I have unlimited wifi.

More than one way to surf....
