Anyone have a “Smart boat?”

No wi-fi but I went with SimpliSafe it's all cellular-based. I started with burglary protection but quickly added, water alarm, CO & smoke, 2 temp alarms (cabin & cockpit), I can check the status from my phone, computer, etc... Email, text and phone call alerting me to anything that I have set up in for certain type of notifications.

Thats a nice look Joe! wanted to do somthing like that as i think our vintage rays could use some nice indirect lighting. Do you have link to what you purchased?
"House wives of who cares" LOL! BTW hows the youtube tv working out for you? mine recently started logging me out for no good reason....quite annoying but still my only complaint.

Dean you tube is awesome for us so far while in FLA we get NY news. And it has everything the wife watches.
WiFi is the only thing that limits streaming as we know we’re lucky the marina has onspot WiFi and 1 antenna is behind our boat. So we added a ring camera just cause we could. Texted you the link

Sorry to report that AT&T got greedy, and discontinued its $30/month unlimited data plan for the TOGO RV unit on January 15th 2020. Currently the closest thing is 100 GIG for the YEAR for 325.00 or something like that. I can go through 10 gig in a weekend if the weather is inclement. The early adopters of this unit are PISSED.
I believe this is why there is a sudden 50 dollar decrease in price for the hardware. There is a rumor that they are going to open the hardware up to other carriers. Remains to be seen. Airstream is the original producer of this unit, so I think it's in their hands, not ATT.

No WiFi at my dock and the WiFi in the transient marinas we go to isn’t great so my boat is still almost as dumb as me.

I do have cams and love them. Specifically Blink Home Security cams. They are wifi based, use 2 AA batteries and come in waterproof versions. I have one looking down the finger pier so I can see if the boat is getting to close with wind. I have one in the cockpit facing the door, and one in the cabin again facing the door. They capture video, send alerts, and can do geo-fencing arm/disarm. Plus they have a built in thermometer, and have two-way talk. You can get them on Amazon and they come in different bundles that gives you a bigger discount. All wifi based, record/storage is free. VERY reasonably price. I have them at home too/

What I'm trying to figure out still is how to hook in an Arduino to the existing AC system to turn on the AC over wifi like a Nest thermostat. I can't justify the cost of what the big names want to charge when if all I have to do is simulate pushing a button by applying 5v via a $7 arduino.

I am a gadget guy too but at this moment not completed and still looking for a good monitoring device (simular to siren marine) but then a Monitoring device with no annual fees.

So far we have internet everywhere true cellular and network switch and WiFi on board. Gps tracking on EZ tracking platform (no fees needed, only gps card). Satellite tv with opensource dreambox unit.

Radar, plotter etc etc I will change upcoming winter and ad then (docking)cameras that I can watch on my mfd screens. Maybe a Flir cam too, This gonna be for 90% the new Raymarine line. This goes together with new gauges and new instrumentpanels. Big job and still have many things to do so next winter.

But what I want for this summer is a good monitor system that has a good platform to watch everything on iPhone and iPad. It’s not that I am stingy but couple years ago I had annual fees for about everything and i realized that’s just a waist of money since there are a lot of annual free options. Unfortunately I didn’t find a good boat monitoring system yet in Europe. If anyone knows a good system that doesn’t have annual fees please let me know.

What I've been thinking about is adapting a smart plug, controlled by the echo dot onboard, to switch either a relay that would engage the A/C circuit on the panel, or Maybe switch the A/C leg itself. My boat sits under my balcony, so it's close enough that I really don't need to do this remotely. But I could see turning the air on while you are travelling down to the boat.

If you were to wire this isolation relay across the terminals of your AC breaker. You can accomplish it without circumventing the function of the breaker. Just plug it into your smart plug. When engaged it will bypass the breaker switch, but still provide its own 15Amp protection.

If I understand it right, this would be a means to actually turn on something (apply power) that it is connected to? I leave the AC system on the boat set to "DU" (dehumidifier) when we aren't there so the system is already powered up. I want to remote switch it out of DU mode to Cool mode which is just done by hitting the cool button on the panel. With all the proprietary wiring harnesses (looks like 8-strand silver satin) and the fact that you're triggering pumps to start I couldn't figured out how to safely wire a Nest to replace the SMX control panel after looking at the schematic. If I can simulate whatever the momentary "cool" button on the panel does I think it might work.

If anyone else knows how to wire a smart thermostat into a boat I'm all ears!

Yeah. You'd have to find the location on your AC control board to simulate a button press, as this solution just simulates turning the AC breaker on or off. At least the SMX is smart enough to return to its last settings on application of power, so I keep mine set to auto switchover mode.

Agreed - that is a good thing especially if they drop power at the marina due to a storm, high water on the docks, etc. I'll keep exploring the button press thing. Maybe someone else will chime in who is smarter than me on the possibilities...
