That's a lot of holes. You say youre fixing the transom, is it wet? Those look like holes someone might have drilled to let water drain out

I hope not to wet.. No water coming out at least but holes need to be refilled. A company will do the plastic job. I think this was done during the repower of the boat.. I know I might be in deep sh*t, please spare me =) Just had the boat 1 season and found this when sanding for new antifouling.

Plan is to make it watertight and hope for the best.

If you want to be certain (and since you have to fill the holes anyway) you can drill a couple more and take some core samples or look at the drill shavings. If its wet, you'll know it by looking at them or even smelling them if its rotten

Thanks yr reply

If it were to be wet, what options do you think I ha e?

If its wet, drill a few more holes and let it sit and dry out for a few weeks.

Then sand the areas down, west systems the holes back shut and barrier coat over it and re-apply the black bottom paint.

If it hasn't made it's way too far up the transom and into the stringers, you are good.

One more thing, a good check is to try to tighten the motor mount bolts. If they spin, the stringers are shot.

You can also take core samples of the stringers by drilling into them and checking the wood. If the wood shavings come out dry and curly you're good. If wet and powdery, not good - needs a stringer/transom job.

Thanks for the replies, will let you know progress.
Will handover the work to the experts now.. at the same time trying stay positive...

In the meantime, check my rear windlass install
How in the world did they get it in there
Cant get it out, thats for sure, fingers crossed it doesnt break.

Are you saying there was nothing attached where the holes were?

There should have been stainless steel trim tabs in this location.

Where did they go?

Found the holes when removing paint, decided to do something about it. I have trimtabs but further on the sides. How did it originally look?

Now have it confirmed, transom is wet
Will patch it up for this summer and try to get someone to replace during winter.

Is there anyone who can give me an example of a similar job? Trying to understand how its done.
Do you replace it from the inside? Outside? Or cut the whole transom?
