Petition to open Marinas

It's early. There's a decent chance we'll still see snow in the next week or two. Medical staffs are now becoming infected and facilities stressed. Just stay out of the way for another couple weeks and give this thing a chance to play out.

I am in... this can be safely done as described... I am more afraid of pumping gas then going to the boat... you ever pay attention to how many things you touch at a gas station?.... a place where multiple people touch the same thing

We are going to be social distancing in public for a while. May as well start getting used to it. Get everyone a mask, a can of disinfectant wipes, stay 6 feet away, and conduct business as best you can. Enough of these "stay home" Nazis.

I'm with you on that. I think the officials just figure that humans in general are stupid and selfish and can't be relied on to use common sense to stay healthy and not affect others. The only thing they can do is go to the extreme and insist the population stay home. I for one refuse to do that on principal. I am careful, distance myself from others, use a paper towel to grip the hose at the filling station, Disinfect the shopping cart and use the wipe to open cooler doors. I wash my hands as soon as I get home and even wipe down the wheel and gear shift on the car. I go to my office at the airport and from a distance interact with my coworkers while we assign homework for our students. We all are being as careful as possible. Our county here in Nor Cal has 99 cases total, 33 active and two deaths which means 63 have recovered. In a county of over 700,000 I think our risk of getting the damn thing is pretty low. As I remember, Vacaville, my town, had the first recorded case in the USA and Travis Airforce base is 15 miles away where many of the Wuhan Evacuees were quarantined. The system seems to be working.
There is no way to know if just imploring people to distance and disinfect regularly wouldn't have done the same thing with out killing our economy.

You made a great statement.
Whether someone agrees with the order or not, your quote,
“...the officials just figure that humans in general are stupid and selfish and can't be relied on to use common sense...” is based on the character and behavior of the officials themselves. So I see why they think we are all like that.
Oh, and add in the officials are also self-inflated and egotistical - like the Mayor of Chicago and her all-important hairdo.

I've always wondered...what actually happens after these online petitions are complete? Does someone push "send" and they are automatically emailed to a lawmaker who is then compelled to review and address the issue?

Unless I missed it Michigan hasn't yet extended the stay at home order beyond next Monday, only the state of emergency has been extended? I'd imagine they are going to issue new guidance if an extension is released. I'd also bet some business will be allowed to start reopening. Here's to hoping marina's are included...but maybe I'm entirely too optimistic.

Governor Whitmer said at her last press conference that we should anticipate an extension of the stay at home order.

I could see it being extended to April 30th but I could also see her going farther than that. Oregon extended their stay at home indefinitely.. I hope she realizes we’re at a critical point for the Michigan economy when she makes her decision.

Agreed. I expected through April as well. But I'm hoping for some "relaxation" such as construction, outdoor work, maybe marinas?

I feel if this goes beyond the end of April the downsides of "stay at home" could start outweighing the upsides. I am trying to avoid media at all costs right now but my wife shared with me an interesting link describing the death rate per % rise in unemployment. I'm not fully signed on to this theory but it was an interesting listen...

This is Michigan's model today... They are predicting today is the peak.... Lets hope they are right

Unfortunately that model has been epically wrong. However, I do agree Mich is closer to the apex than farther.

This is a tough one. Unless your are personally affected by this (yourself, close relative/friend infected or in the hospital, or worse...), it's hard to wrap your head around it. Even those forced into unemployment! This wasn't all because of a market downturn. A switch was flipped to OFF when this virus hit.
Here at home, we are safe and detached from the impact around us. Head to the store though, and you wait in lines due to limited # of people allowed inside, or shelves are cleared out, or people walking around in face masks or full PPE. It's like we are living in a movie!
My goal to get back to the boat is I want to get everything moving again - businesses, people, etc. Except for my mental health, do I need to go to the boat? In the grand scheme of things, no. But for the sake of everything impacted by our boat ownership - i certainly hope our marina opens soon!!!

No model is predicting with accuracy... so if your going to pick a model ..pick one that makes you feel better :)
There is "accuracy" and couldn't hit water if you fell out of a boat. These models are the latter. :)

I read a response from a state legislator outlining his thoughts on easing restrictions selectively. He made a good argument. The state can continue road construction, but a building team can't build a house or landscapers can't trim your shrubs. Menards is selling plants but your local nursery has to eat their inventory. Big box stores are open to hundreds of customers while local shops that might see a few customers at a time remain closed. I guess I'm kind of on the fence. I can see the value of a total lockdown to let the virus come and go, but even as restrictive as it is here in Michigan, it's far from a total lockdown so the spread continues anyway. Outdoor occupations and private firms with little or no public interaction should probably be allowed to operate...especially in rural communities. I doubt there is a correct answer.

So true. I was just cruising along until I got the report that a baseball friend was in the hospital on a ventilator. It's like someone punched you in the gut. He's off and coming home soon. But it's surreal walking thru the stores with empty shelves. Haven't seen paper products in weeks. Pasta is generally gone, bread is always thin, chicken can be hard to find, etc.
