Like Blue I'd also be in the camp of leaving the door on. If you ever get direct sun on the fridge it'll be a beer warmer :). I've also had marine fridge latches let go in particularly heavy seas. Having that outer door is extra security, prevents Mich Ultra strewn about your cockpit...

New fridge questions.......Are these new fridges you guys are installing AC/DC? Are the original fridges AC/DC? I know the galley fridge is AC/DC but not sure about the cockpit fridge.

Thanks,

Jaybeaux

The fridge I installed is AC only as was the ice maker it replaced.

Ditto.
That said, we have a gen as well as an inverter. So we are able to keep VAC going under all conditions. The positive to needing to have full time 110 except for brief periods, is that the ice making is as good, if not better than, anything at home. While the money side of not having to buy ice certainly does not make a difference, the convenience certainly does.
