Hey slow your roll there Mopar Man! (I assume by your name PlumbCrazy4spd you have a Challenger/Charger 4 speed and you are not particularly a SBC fan).

Sounds like you already decided to buy this boat. Have you inspected, test run, had a survey done yet? Go into it slowly and objectively. On my current boat, I brought a close “boat experienced” friend with me on the sea trial. I told him the biggest favor he could do for me was to find a reason to not buy the boat. He failed me.

No good God no, not yet. That was more of a joke, I do hope to get on the water this year, but I'm in no particular rush. I will be having a more boat savvy friend or two come inspect it with me as well. Provided I can get into the state and check it out. While I know it won't be perfect, hopefully it's a decent cruiser. Ideally I won't be paying the asking price, I'd obviously like to spend as little as possible, assuming cash talks if I show up with a truck to haul it away. He is more than happy to oblige me with a sea trial. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. I'll assume you recommend a survey? If it was more money a survey would be a no brainer. Though, not that I want to spend 13k on a lemon either. You are correct about Ma Mopar. Roadrunner though, and while I'm a Mopar guy at heart, I do have a soft spot for some Chevies and Fords too =]

Last Mopar I had was a 69 Plymouth Valiant with a slant 6 and three on the tree. Long time ago. What a beauty! My brother wrecked it.
I just came back to Mopar this year with a 2019 Ram 2500 6.4L 4x4 Big Horn. What a great piece of engineering. Very satisfied. If I found a classic Challenger, I would scoop it up.

Ahhhhh that set up is gorgeous man. Some day! Those 6.4's are no joke. Great gas job.

Well guys, I appreciate all the advice and everything, I stayed clear of the 470s and pulled the trigger on one with twin 5.7 mercs. Now all we need to do is kick this virus. That's her loaded up in New York. And followed by her getting nestled in her Massachusetts home.

I purchased a boat with the 470 Mercruiser back in the day when they first appeared on the market. The dealer hailed it as the best marine engine ever!! Well........worst decision of my life. Major issues each year I owned it. Blown head gasket, water cooled voltage regulator burnt up $$$, heat exchanger barely cooled the engine, hard to start when engine was warm, just to name a few. I cannot imagine having two in the same boat!! However it did teach me a life lesson. NEVER buy any engine just released. Always wait for two or three seasons to see if engineering was right. This paid off in 2003 when I started to get a Ford F250 with the new 6.0 diesel. This ended up being the worst diesel engine ever. Glad I did not fall for the marketing hype.

Congratulations on the find. Hope it is a jewel. Don’t forget to install fresh CO detectors and double the USCG recommended fire extinguishers in both size and number.

I found a trailer dealer that lists one of their new dual axle trailers as 14,000 GVWR. So, I guess it is possible the trailer does have some really heavy duty axles. That should be easy to verify. My 15,000 GVWR trailer is triple-axle.

Either way, check those tires and learn about the date codes, if you don’t already know.

Does it have Alpha Ones, Inboards, some other drives?
Older post, however in looking at the photos of the 270 on the dual axle trailer, they appear to be 8 lug axles/wheels. From what I researched before, this means the axles at a minimum would be 5200 lb each (10,400 lb total) and very likely higher than that.

PlumCrazy, congrats on the boat. I have seen a couple 270s listed with T/260s and I imagine they perform very well!

Thank you! Got it splashed on Thursday, let me tell you it's a learning curve growing up with transmissions then buying sterndrives. So far cruising around 3000 to 3200 gets me between 23 and 25 knots depends on conditions and 4000 got me about 35 knots. Only complaint is either the tachs are wrong or the sync gauge is off. And my shifters o not line up but I'm assuming that's fairly common.

Congrats,

Shifters not lining up is normal (or at least it was on my last two twin engine boats, both straight inboards though).

My father has the same boat and power in an '86. Very, very nice performing boat in all respects... Fast, planes easy, rides extremely well, and pretty good on fuel.

Good to know! Seems like most people that have owned a similar year version have all all enjoyed it. Hopefully I end up being one of those people too! heh

Well...I said if I found a good classic Challenger I would scoop it up, however, my heart was really set on a 3rd Gen vette since I was 13.
Just turned 55 and well into mid-life crisis now...pretty much panic mode.
Soooo......I just added another “Ray” to my carport.
‘82 Collector Edition. Last of the Stingray body style.
I feel much better now!

Last of the C3 body style...unless you wonder what would have been sold in 1983 had there been any Corvettes that year. :):)

The StingRay/Sting Ray model was last used in 1976...up until the brought it back in 2014.

That's a wonderful looking 1982 by the way!!! But be careful around the 'Vette purists...you can't call it a Stingray unless it's got the emblem. Ha :)

A Vette purist would know that the 1983 while not in production was a c4 . Great looking car buddy! Congratulations! Even rolling up to the boat in style is fun . Ps. Just poking fun about the 83 comment btw. I'm no Vette purist.

While it sure is fun to drive, I can't help but feel a little girly driving it. Little flat 6 manual. Fun in the Twisties.

You had me wondering....and I had to google it. Not that wiki is law...but 1983 is generally excluded from the body style ranges. Perhaps we should call 1983 a CX....? ha.

Yea, I knew it wasn’t a “Badged Stingray.” I was careful with my wording when I called it a “stingray body style.” Had my lawyer review the terminology using existing case law so as to not offend any of the rabid vette purists!! :)

We have plenty of rioting going on now. I certainly don’t want to cause more civil unrest.
