Look what I got!

Yes. I like having a backup for a 42 year old engine. The I/O is a 1978. I have had to use the OB to get home a few times especially when the boat still had the original 1972 Mercruiser 165. Now I use the OB mainly for fishing.

So we got her home ok. Good news is oil in outdrive has no water in it. Floors seem ok. Just needs cleaning up a lot then I can get into it more. Stay tuned.

Looks a lot better without the foliage growing out of it.

That motor looks like burnt toast. Does it turn over?

Ok here's pics after clean up.. After cleaning up it's hard to believe it's the same boat. Cleaned up nice. Ripped out all the crap like the cabinets and turf. Cleaned out a bunch of crap out of the bilge and around the engine. The engine is locked up and had water in it. I removed the plugs and soaked the cylinders with wd40. Filled it back up with oil. Let it set and see if it will break loose. Now I've done this before. My grandfather had a 1950 wyliss jeep with a flathead 4 cylinder that sat in the woods for 20 years. Holes in the hood. Went thru a couple hurricanes I mean right on the gulf. I dragged it home. The spark plugs were rusted bad in the head. After several cans of wd40 I got the plugs out .got it broke free. I got it started and used it to haul hay. There are always possibilities!

I'm not a "project kinda guy" and would never dream of tackling a job like that even though I know it's a labor of love.

I do admire you for taking that on and bringing an old beauty back to her former self.

Good on ya for doing that.

Yes sir. Thankyou very much! She just dropped in my lap. Looking on you tube at these years. Some had a sink with running water and a gas stove . This one has the toilet but no sink. My other SRV has a fridge and a sink for fish cleaning. I know of a boat junk yard where I can find seats and hardware. He has an old 87 268 junk boat that looks oddly similar to this one.

Love it it's always an accomplishment bringing these Sea Ray's back to life .I have done several and not one regret.good luck and keep us posted

You have a solid shell there. I would rather tear it down to just that and build it up to what you want before trying to restore it to closer to original. Good luck with what you decide to do with it and keep the pics coming.

Wow. Now that’s ambition for you. :)

The after pics are amazing.

The only problem I see here is the dent you put in ecology when you moved it.

Seriously though, I admire anyone willing to go that deep into the unknown.

This is a feel good story of a build. Amazing to see an example of what work ethic and persistence can accomplish.

All the best!

Before you go to much further you should get a good assessment of the condition of the transom and stringers.

Nice find and best of luck.

Ned, Where is the video? Great job. That will be one beautiful classic when you are done. GOD speed. JC
