I want to replace my original year 2005 anchor rode. How much and what size chain and line did the boat come with from the factory? Thanks!

We just bought a 10" foam mattress with a gel top and flared it at the head end. Cut it to pattern with an electric carving knife. Tonite will be the first time sleeping on it.

Hey @villain style - How did sleeping on the new mattress go? Did it feel alot different than the old one?

Can you share a little more information. Where did you buy the mattress and how much was it? Where / what type of electric knife did you buy?

Thanks! I am intrigued by your approach.

i am having a problem starting my port engine. When I push the start button at the helm the motor cranks once and then I need to push the emergency start button to get it to crank continuously and then start. i checked all the batteries at the start of the season with a battery tester and they all tested good under load. On the banks of two batteries i disconnected the negative cables when I tested them. Do I need to remove the positive cables as well when I am testing the batteries? Could my starter be the problem? How do you test how much the starter motor is drawing?

I resolved this problem. I disconnected and re-tested the batteries and they were both on the line between good and weak. I replaced them both and the port engine starts right up.

That's good news! Lead acid batteries typically have a 4 season life span on our boats.

On earlier posts I had detailed about removing the original defunct DVD player from above the Microwave in the galley.

I opted to not install another DVD player since it seems like even the one at home we hardly use.

I decided instead to convert the space where the DVD used to be to a spot where people can charge their iPhones and iPads as well as where they can plug in their iPhone or iPad to display the contents on the fold down TV in the salon. This will allow us to pre-download movies and TV shows from Amazon Prime or Netflix and then play them on the boat.

Here here is a link to the USB charger outlet I bought from Amazon:

And here is a link to the adapter that allows you to play movies from your iPhone or iPad on the galley TV:

Here is a pic of the charger I added so that people can plug their phones in to charge. It runs off of 12V which means it will work even if I do not have the generator running:

I'll be doing this...Thanks Hynespa

Hynespa -
I bough this mattress in a King Medium firmness - https://www.overstock.com/Home-Gard...MkA2q8O9Apwx5QJYPZY_l4GVZNmmQtCxoCyZ4QAvD_BwE

We pulled the sheeting off the mattress that came with it prior to any cutting of it. Then afterwards just put it back on with a few tuck and pulls here and there.

I brought the old mattress home and used it as a template. Laid it on top of new mattress and used a marker to outline. For the head area where the mattress starts its flare i flipped the old mattress on the new one and now marked the width of the flared portion of mattress. In reality because this mattress was 10 " I could have flared it another 3-4 inches but the wife wanted to keep it close to original to fit her comforter she had.

I used our electric kitchen knife that we cut Thanksgiving turkey with. Nothing special. It cuts right thru easily...

The port closet door does hit the edge of the mattress when opening it but I just pushed the mattress down and swung the door open for access. No biggie.

The mattress made a huge difference comfort wise. A big improvement over the old one which I had lots of pressure points from. Although we did not gain any additional space at head end this was still a good upgrade for us.

Good luck with your decisions!!

Oh, and speaking of working in that area......in case anyone now or in the future is interested, I had an accumulation of fresh water wetting the carpet in the aft stateroom. I searched high and low in and around all compartments back there but no plumbing lines to the aft head were leaking. After many hours and ripped up hands and elbows I finally discovered that behind the ceiling panel inside the cabinet above the microwave is the attachment of the windshield spritzer tube to the starboard wiper, which had jiggled loose at some point. Drip, drip, drip....

WOW! Great find. I'm curious do the wipers get their water supply from the water tank or dock hose feed or both? I wanna check mine now!

Guys, my bowthruster light on the button (Vetus) no longer works. Anyone have any idea if these can be changed?
thanks in advance!

Are you positive it doesn't work? Don't want to make any assumptions, but you need to touch the thruster button twice to turn it on and keep it on. It will also auto turn off after some period of time.

Foul water coming from somewhere...

We launched April 9. The weather has been mostly chilly and not much fun until a couple of weeks ago. Around then, we started notice an unpleasant odor, not so prevalent at first and over the days becoming increasingly worse. It was most noticeable when we kicked on the salon air (for heat). pulling up hatches the smell was under the salon somewhere but every single area was dry and clean with no residue to be found anywhere.

Waste vac pumps not running and water pump not running except on demand.

Opened the shower sump...no smell there. Dragged a hose down into the salon and rinsed down the shower sump, no problems there, pump working fine and all hoses from showers etc draining perfectly into sump.

In the little area aft of the shower sump, in the same hold, there seemed to be a concentration of the smell although it was bone-dry. Noticed a little bit of brown residue in the channels running lengthwise either side through the sump area. Dragged the hose back down and gave that area a good rinse down. Pump was misbehaving so I replaced it...again the area was dry when I started but replaced the pump anyway.

While rinsing down the area, at times when the original pump was not drawing water, it seemed that the water level was going down slightly.

pumped down the water and sopped up the last of it, and noticed water seeping in from under the raised platform that the shower sump sits on. Over time it slowed down, only seeping when the boat pitched or rocked in the slip, then stopped altogether.

Put a small wet/dry vac up to a little hole (doesn't look intentional) alongside the structural stringer on the starboard side and sucked out about 4 gallons. Really foul water. Put a temporary life caulk plug there with the idea being that if it was sea water infiltrating then when I returned the next day and I pulled it, it would be a "gusher". Next morning opened the hatch and it was dry, but offensive. Pulled the caulk...nothing!

So after a few days of "Does it smell or not?" and it being dry, we decide to forge ahead with a planned short overnight trip about 60miles each way. When we arrived at the destination, the smell was not so bad, opened the hatch and there was water in the same area but not enough to kick on the pump. Filled a plastic water bottle with the water with the intention of testing with a salt test strip. Sopped it up with a towel and things got smellier as I sopped. Smell was there but bearable overnight. Next ,morning there was a little bit of water in there which I sopped up.

Cruised back to home port and opened the hatch, about an inch of smelly water. took another sample. Then I took a "baseline" sample from outside the boat from the dock. The first thing that was noticeable was the 2 samples from on the boat were brown, the sample from outside was crystal clear.

The samples from the boat both tested at 7100ppm, the sea water was off the test strip but a search came up with 35,000ppm is where sea water tests.

May or may not be relevant, last season we took a 2 night trip up the Hudson River, (brackish water which will test at 7100ppm) and while docked, we noticed we were sitting a little low in the water. We had a float switch failure in the aft pump and the water made it to just over the top of the raised area where the ladder touches down in the engine room. Ran pump periodically w manual switch (rudder packing needed redone).

Any ideas?

Positive the little green light doesn’t light up anymore. The thrusters work fine, but the light no longer illuminates

Radaron....The foul smell and water has got to be from inside the stringers. As you know from our conversation I believe there is old and somewhat foul water trapped inside the stringers/maybe the floor? I’m posting this in the hope that others will give their experience or opinion about this.
