I remember seeing a thread on the best spider spray for the boat.

What would the best one be?

I've used Ortho Home Defense for years around the boat and it works well. I usually spray twice during the spring and summer months.

Costco big June of ant killer with a battery powered sprayer. Same chemical. Spray your lines and cleats liberally.

Fastcap period the best I’ve found.

I spray vinegar. Non-toxic, biodegradable, spiders hate it, so do ants. Need to re-apply more often that the real killers.

Forgot to add that the vinegar is for the docks, etc., not the boat. It'll strip the wax.

Another spray, my wife reminds me, is made from bay leaves steeped in water. Think sun tea. Spray that around at bugs will not stay.

An insecticide spray such as Bug B'Gone that attaches to your hose allows you to do your dock, lines and entire boat in about 5 minutes. If you wash your boat on Fridays, do this once or twice a season on a Wednesday. All the spiders will be dead on your boat and it is non staining.

No. Hit it with the insecticide a couple of days prior to your wash day. Kills everything but leaves water spots that easily wash away. Enough of the residue stays under cockpit nooks and crannies that you are good to go as long as you don't tie up to a spider infested slip away from your home port. Our boat would stay bug free until we traveled for 6 weeks and picked up every spider looking for a home on both sides of Lake Michigan. Would spray it again when we got home and be bug free for the balance of the season. Try it. It works.
