Hi guys,

I am a bit unsure on this topic so wanted some opinnions. So I have twin kad300 which at lowest rpm takes me 4 knots, which is too fast for most types of trolling on our lake.

With some tricks I can maybe take of a knot or more but still would need to shut down the other engine. So question is if I can safely do this without causing problems? Should the other motor be completely shut, not in idle without fwd gear?

I dont plan to troll for excessive hours at a time, more like 2-3hours. Also annual trolling hours would be something like 20-30 hours annually.

What do you think?

hi ! i,m not a volvo diesel pro but a good friend has a kad43 and he trolls on inland channels with it forever having no issues .

i think the kad300 spins the compressor even at idle while the kad43 engages it at higher rpms / loads . this may be higher maintanance on the compressor belt .

generally the volvo appears to be bullet proof .

I remember reading something about the drive might not like being dragged around if shut down. Not sure if it applied to the DPG drive or some other?
