George Floyd

Happy to hear you are safe and pray that does not change. To each his own on how they keep their arms and ammo. I don't have kids in the house so there is a loaded pistol and tactical flashlight at each entry of my house and a Bull Pup modified Mossburg 500 standing at the head of my bed. I'm not paranoid just prepared for the rapture in the unlikely event it arrives.
Strange times we find our selves in. I wonder if the protests are not made worse by the uncertainty caused by the pandemic response as the most adversely affected are often the least prepared or financially capable of dealing with it.

Thank you & please CD, I meant no offense to those who have immediate access to a firearm in their households. I have friends that do as well. I just choose not to.

Friend of mine from the 88th precinct in Brooklyn NY showed me this from an hour ago SMH

More peaceful protests going on here as well:confused:

We have an 8pm curfew in Minneapolis and St Paul. Imagine that?

No kids in our house so my Glock 22 sits on the dresser beside the bed at night.

Being a former LEO I will add that I do not like what I have seen in that video but will also say that we have only seen what the media has let us see. That being said I'm still not sure why a handcuffed man was on the ground with a knee to the back of his neck. However, compliance goes a long way. I'm quite sure that if Mr. Floyd had complied with commands he would still be alive. Not that resistance should result in death but the one common denominator in all of these deaths during arrest is non-compliance. The police may be in the wrong but that is what court is for but at least you live to breath another day. Otherwise you are putting your life in the hands of the arresting officer and just hope that he isn't one of the few that don't deserve to wear a badge.

So here's the thing. When he's down, handcuffed and no longer moving isn't he in compliance? What really gets me is the officer looked straight at the camera. He knew he was being filmed. His buddies knew he was being filmed, and yet not one of them had the sense to say "hey man, that's enough." I truly think there is a level of PTSD in the police in these areas -- they just snap. I don't know.

There must be more to this story. For starters, we still haven't seen any body cam video from the cops that were supposedly being worn by all.

It is all so sad. The looters and rioters are not protesters they are opportunistic shoppers.

Long ago when our children were is school the province introduced legislation to change the school act that had been placed in our original constitution. One person called for people to show up at the presentation of the legislation. In all there were thousands that showed up. No violence, no signs, no placards jut middle class parents. There was no shouting or threats. The government got the picture and withdrew the legislation.

That was the only instant success protest I have seen in a long time. In the US Civil Right Marchers were similar and accomplished a great deal. Looting and burning only makes the general population want to shoot the looters and burners and put the rest or the crowd in prison. In the end all a city and the country are left with is hate, burnt building, ruined small business and more dead. Nothing is accomplished.

In 1973 I got my first job on a project that had 10,000 workers. The place had its own police force. It was run by a retired Police Chief. None of his men wore a uniform; but had yellow hard hats. His men eat with the rest of us. Once I got to meet the Chief and asked him why they did not wear a uniform. The answer was “You ever got a speeding ticket” Then he explained that we all have had trouble with the law and we all feel resentment to them. That is how situations are held in check and we all do well. Mutual respect is all that is required he said to maintain order.

If anyone doubts that this is just protesting another terrible example of police brutality all you need to do is ask" where is Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton or any calming personality from the black community calling for peace and patience with the law. Justice for George Floyd is proceeding, He was fired and arrested and charged with serious crimes and likely will go to prison. This is another attempt to further weaken the Trump administration and try to shake American's confidence in his leadership. What do these idiots otherwise hope to accomplish by continuing "Black Lives Matter" demonstrations at this particular time in Sacramento and LA? There were way more of these incidents during Obama's administration and as I remember the Black community leaders wasted no time calling for peaceful demonstration and condemning violence. They are noticeably absent and silent this week, Gee I wonder why? These events are happening in large cities run by Democrats by and large, Do any of these protesters actually think that their lives will be better with a Dem in the White House? They need to take their lanterns and pitchforks right to the state capitols and clean house there not burn out the police stations that house the very people that work diligently to serve and protect their communities. Time to open a can of Whoop Ass and squash this non-sense post haste! Get out the water cannons and tear gas and show these thugs who is in charge. These Mayors that are ordering their police chiefs to stand by and not engage are chicken shit leaders and need to be ran out of office by special elections and replaced by true leaders.

CD, I agree in part with what you wrote but I think you have missed a buoy (to use a bad boating pun) and gone off course with this statement....

"This is another attempt to further weaken the Trump administration and try to shake American's confidence in his leadership."

I guess I am not understanding how you think a person looting the Target store or an Apple store is doing that to stop Trump. The rioters are looting for their own personal gain and just to have a fun Friday night.

I don't see these riots ending soon and, to quote a phrase that originated in the riotous summer of 1967, it could be a "long, hot summer."

GFC, A buoy was missed, I am referring to the leaders that the masses tend to follow are slow rolling their efforts to bring calm. If they were interested in tamping this situation down for the overall health of the nation and the directly affected communities, I argue they would be on every media outlet calling for restraint. So far I have seen little effort to that end and I am just pointing out a possible and obvious reason. I know the thugs that are looting don't give a rip about politics and possibly if queried individually probably couldn't even tell you the name of the mayor of their town. They are just getting caught up in Mob Mentality fun for the night for the most part. Hell I would even doubt that a good percentage of the looters even know what the protest is about or who George Floyd is.
I may just be getting to cynical in my later years but it is serving me well.

It’s not the people rioting and looting it’s the city’s leadership that is the problem...they are allowing people to run rampant and destroy their communities

Sharpton and Jackson are a joke at best.... the whole thing is rediculous

With all those idiots getting close and not protecting themselves well you will see an upswing in the virus and nature will weed a few of them out, if not then lets turn the army loose on them with real bullets and clean the earth of a few of those low lifes.

Too bad to see things go like that but happen to agree with and appreciated the original meaning of Trump's Tweet” when the looting starts the shooting starts” he walked that back to mean that the bullets will come from a few bad actor protesters but the bullets need to come from a strong law enforcement contingent. Bullets are really the best deterrent and I don’t mean rubber ones.

He should have complied from the start. My understanding is that early on Mr. Floyd resisted and that set the tone to a negative interaction (no defense for the officer going overboard).

Protesting getting violent in Pittsburgh now. Son will be heading back from West Chester, PA taking the turnpike. I told him to watch for any roadblocks and try to get away from them any way possible. Hope he makes it back with no issues.
