Mercruiser 225 GM 327
Hell on recently picked up this wonderful sea ray but am having trouble finding much info about its drive and engine. It’s seems rare. Mercruiser 225 Gm 327. Any info and part availability would be appreciated.

Start with finding the serial number. It should be on a metal tag riveted above the starter if it is still the original engine. I don't remember the 225 being that far back but the serial number will confirm what you have.

I have the serval numbers for engine and drive. Having difficulties finding any parts for drive and even difficult finding engine parts. The drive is what I believe is called a mercruiser II. Does not draw water through the lower unit. It come in thru Hull. Looking for any one who is familiar and might know where parts may be had.

I was afraid of that.... at 53 years old (stern drive still in it's infancy and not many around even back then) and several generations removed from current, parts are going to be near impossible to find unless you can find a donor unit. Practically....if you love the boat, you'll be money ahead refitting to a later Alpha drive from the bell housing on back.... just don't try to justify the dollars & cents because you won't be able to make the math work. Good luck

Will the later alpha drive work without cutting

Will the newer alpha drives work without redoing the transom? Who would know about these? I love the boat. One owner. Always stored inside.

I know the mounts are different, but if I remember right its a matter of cutting for the new mount and not "filling in the old" and then cutting for the new mount. It's been 40 years since I've even thought about it...sorry I can't be more help.
