Official 280 Sundancer Thread

So today I headed out to the boat all excited to install the new horn that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit. Does anyone have a recommendation for a horn that actually fits AND works?
Pictures show the difference.

So, this is what I did (see pic). I hated the wimpy sound of the standard horn so I purchased an electric horn that sounds like an air horn. I mounted it to my anchor line locker hatch which enabled me to easily access the wiring to the standard horn.

That’s what I started to contemplate this morning. Did you need to wire in a relay or is the current wiring adequate. What model did you get?

Hello everyone, hoping someone knows what the problem is here. When turning on the nav lights yesterday, all led display buttons on this one pad flickered and then none would light when pushed to engage that function. Nothing on this pad works except the nav lights, but now the nav lights won't turn off when pushing the button(though the led on the control pad does not light up to show the lights are on). The other control pad at the helm works fine, bilge, blower, hatch etc Thanks you....

Awesome. Thank you so much. And you’re happy with the sound level?

Absolutely! I couldn’t be happier with the sound. I am thinking of making a canvas cover for it though b/c I’m not sure how it will handle the elements in the long term. I just replaced my cockpit cover so I now have plenty of material to make custom covers for any topside equipment I want to protect.

Awesome. I will order one. And good idea on the cover.

We have Kalenberg air trumpets on our new boat. They sound great, but remembering to turn on the air pump is a pain. Covers over the mouths would keep spray out of them while moving, but might retain water and damp when sitting.

My LCD display on my Lowrance 3500 Depth finder gauge isn't working very well anymore. Anyone know if there is a place that repairs them? Or where to find just a new or refurbished gauge?

Worse case, could I wire in a different one w/o having to replace my transducer? I just had the boat pulled so the transducer could be re-sealed as it was leaking. Then this happens. Never ends.

How easy is it to undo the wires behind the gauge so I could send it in (assuming there is a place that could repair it)?

I have a brand new Lowrance 3500 display with white/silver bezel (no transducer) in orig box. Bought it a few years ago to install on my 98 250DA, but sold boat before I installed. Also have brand new gauges - volts, temp, trim, oil pressure, fuel level.

Currently advertised for sale locally. These are impossible to find.

Then at the slip yesterday everything worked again. Later when underway for an overnight, same problem. Tried looking under the helm for a loose wire but didn't see anything

I had a similar problem and wound up replacing the switch bank. they are hard to find, but sometimes pop up on ebay. Flounder Pounder has an aftermarket solution to replace the banks and control modules with regular switches and new adapters. Runs about 3500 dollars.

I really don’t recall. But before upgrading batteries double check the output of your alternators.
So just got up to the boat and I have a 65 amp alternator on my starboard eng and a 70 amp on my port eng. From what I understand you need a 1 to 4 ratio of the alternator to the battery bank. So it seems like with my port alternator I could support up to 280 ah total and 260 on my starboard so I wouldn’t have a problem with getting group 27 starting batteries in general. Is this correct or am I misunderstanding how this works?

Hey Paul, Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Hopefully thats not going to be the case here. We were back out yesterday afternoon and strangely everything was working....thank god! I'm wondering if having the mooring cover off the past two weeks (which I never do, its always on) allowed that control panel to get damp/moisture in it, and it just needs to dry out? We've had a lot of rain.

I am strongly considering installing an Octopus drive in my boat. I fish a fair amount and having an autopilot for trolling makes things so much easier. I have been reading the specs on the unit, and according to the specs, looks like there may not be enough clearance behind the dash. I have seen some posts about others who were considering using, but none that actually have installed on our model 280. Does anyone know if the Octopus tilt systems will fit for sure?

I have water dripping from the end of a brass fitting that is attached to the bottom of the riser elbow on the starboard side.I can't find a schematic drawing or a part number. The brass fitting appears to be some sort of relief valve that threads into the side of the nipple that feeds water to cool the elbow. The fitting appears to have a hole milled into the end, the hole is where the water is dripping from.

I managed to snap off the bow access black nylon windshield latch on my '02 and am not so sure how to go about replacing it. I was able to unscrew the windshield today but it looks like the latches are riveted on there? Any suggestions or options to lock the windshield in place?

I did a search of this post but couldn't find a similar issue but it's entirely possible I missed it.

Thanks!
