Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

I have a download that identifies and locates a lot of the various parts; one page deals with locations and measurements of decals and tape. Even though we essentially have the same boat (mine's a '90 270) i dont know if all the decals are in the same place. I downloaded it from the manuals archives on the sea ray web site so you should be able to find something there .

Ok. I just downloaded the 93 290 info from the sea ray site. Unfortunately I have no idea how to attach it here. So its there . Look under parts manuals in the archives, its called 93 290 floor plan. 42 pages. It also includes the dash layout, bilge layout, cabin details, lots of neat stuff

This poor thread doesn't seem to get much activity any more. I've been slowly getting things fixed. My water system is finally up and running. I replaced the galley faucet and made a bamboo insert to fill in the drainage area on the left side of the galley, so I have flat counter space on that side now. The transom shower faucet was busted so I put a decorative pvc trim plate and a brass valve there.

I have a brand new manual pump head and a new holding tank so the head is in good shape.

In the cockpit, the front and rear facing seats have been redone. Still have to have theI backrest and the rear seat done. For carpet, I just bought some smaller area rugs and put one on each engine hatch and one in the passageway. I have new camper canvas but I'm regretting my choice of going under the arch instead of to the arch. Still contemplating a change there.

Still lots to do. The windshield vent needs replaced. My spotlight lights but doesnt rotate. AC doesnt work. There's lots to do in the cabin, I want to have all the upholstery done in the cabin and address headliner stains. One thing I've noticed in the cabin is a lack of outlets. Other than the outlet under the dinette, and the one in the galley, I havent found any. It would be nice to have one in the V berth and also the aft cabin. I'm also thinking of stowing the dinette table and just making a shelf port side in its place. I like having a place to sit there but i dont really need a table often.

Replacing the fridge and updating the swim platform extension are on the list too. Maybe in a season or two I'll be done. In the meantime, it's in the water and floating! I have some performance issues right now but that's detailed in another thread.

One thing I'm happy about, all the lights work. Cabin, head, cockpit , nav, bilge, arch, they all work!

What is drive ratio for bravo 1? I need to replace mine.

Take this with a grain of salt, but in looking at various prop selection charts lately, I gather there were 3 different gear ratios in the bravo 1, 1.5 being the most common.

I only surmised this while skimming charts, as I said, so I could be mistaken. If you google it, there's some additional info to determine it that I haven't read completely yet

Thanks for looking I have been searching around and still haven’t got a definite ratio yet.

If you can still read the serial # on the drive you should be able to determine the drive ratio with a google search. Our 90' 270 had the 1.5:1.

I had a bravo 1 and upgrading to bravo 2 I know they came on 93 290 just don’t know that ratio.

This thread hasnt seen any action for a long time. I finally got the folding leg hinges for my rear seat/sunpad and put them on. That thing, when open really isnt very big. The corner seat makes removing the floor hatch a pain in the ass. I'm tempted to remove it all and make a cover or lid for the transom cavity. Its not real deep but I could store some pfds and lines in there. It would make the cockpit seem bigger too. Anybody ever do that?

Dave, I've thought about removing the corner seat too. But it's because the rear corner seat back pad basically disintegrated on our boat. It would make getting in from the dock on port side easier.

I'm going to the boat tomorrow, so I'm going to contemplate the corner seat removal while drinking a beer. I'm guessing just a couple screws holding the storage box

Well, a couple friends went with me and one of them gravitated to the corner seat once the anchor was down. So its pretty useful but a folding deck chair or camp chair would still work.

As far as the rear lounge, I thought about a piece of starboard screwed in to replace the bolster. There could be a big piece of starboard hinged to it that would cover the storage. And a pair of paddle latches at the bottom would keep it closed.

There is a business close to me that sells starboard style material and in fact would cut it to my pattern and bevel it. I doubt it would be cheap but I may make a cardboard pattern up and check the cost if I can get some time.

A cheaper option would be a vinyl curtain to snap over the opening

Hello 290 owners!
I'm in the process of purchasing a 1993 Sundancer. This boat is mint, nicely equipped and with a new 7.4 and a recently overhauled Bravo 2 drive. Several others I looked at, even several years newer, were shabby, high hours, poorly maintained or entirely neglected. I took this one for a sea trial yesterday and the boat runs well. I think it's a gem.

One thing I noticed is that it seems a little tender (not entirely stable side to side) when on plane. Is this a characteristic or am I not using the tabs properly? Another question : does this boat have a d.c. panel? The a.c. panel is just inside the cabin door but no sign of a d.c. panel. I have a survey coming up and I would like to ask you folks if there are any items or areas of particular concern on this year and model? Any kinks or cautions for this boat?

Many thanks! I look forward to your responses.

Mine is a 90, essentially the same boat. I find it pretty sensitive on plane also. I boat on a narrow, serpentine lake so in the turns you're hitting various wakes and breezes. I use the tabs a good bit in the turns and coming out. The straights are not as bad. Its actually a kinda narrow beam
considering the almost 30' length.

I have a 12v push button breaker panel in the bilge, in addition to the breakers on the dash. Thats all there is on mine.

There is a bilge pump on mine in the aft cabin, directly ahead of the water tank. This is where the shower and AC condensation drain. The earlier ones did not have a plastic sump box so check to make sure its not rotted there. If you pull the mid cabin center cushions, you'll see it.

Hope the survey goes well. Theyre great boats, soon to be classics!

Thanks, Dave! I was reading up on Bennett's automatic trim control system and it sounds like the solution for the tenderness. I will have this boat on a trailer so the 9 foot beam is okay, going down the highway. Once I get the boat, I'll install the auto -control. I also appreciate your heads-up on the bilge drainage. I'll certainly have the surveyor look in that area. This boat has no a/c and the shower looks as though it was never used so it may be okay down there. I will eventually attempt to put in a sump and pump, as well. I like a dry bilge. It 's good to know where the other 12 v. breakers are. I thought there had to be more somewhere. I really like the boat and hope it surveys well. Thanks again for your advice, Dave!

I have the same boat also, I moved from a wide beam and find the boat very sensitive also. This is my first year with this boat so I chalked it up to I need to get used to it. Automatic tabs would be a real good solution depending on their response rate. Even using the manual trim tabs I tend to overcorrect a lot because of the immediate response. One other note, my kitchen sink drains into that cavity also with the bilge pump...i will be changing that setup while the boat is out for winter months. other than that I like the boat and ride.

Thanks for your observation on the sink drain. That's no good. I'll fix mine too.

So we got the new-to-us 290 and we've had it out a few times before hauling it out for winter. It's great! I've been doing a few small things : a bypass on the HWT for winterizing and one at the water pump for plumbing antifreeze. I just did the oil and filter change on the engine, flushed the coolant and winterized the raw water system, with a fresh anode in the heat exchanger. I put an LED ceiling light in the cabin. It certainly brightens things up. I had a bit of work fishing the wire behind the headliner and over to one of the other lights for power. I'm putting in a fuel flow sensor and the networking to the Lowrance HDS 9. I'll also be putting a valve kit into the old Sure Flo water pump.

I would like to install an additional shorepower inlet near the transom. The current location is very inconvenient because we will generally tie up on the starboard side with the swim platform backed up to the dock. I am intending to route the cable back from the A.C. panel and to install the inlet wherever I can find the necessary space. Has anyone here done this? Any suggestions or observations are appreciated.

I am also planning on rerouting the water inlet to the transom area. The present location is awkward. That should be a simple change.

Hello and Happy New Year!
I'm planning on replacing the rubber fuel line, vent line and filler hose this winter. Does anyone here know the access location for these fuel tank connections on a 1993 29 DA?
