Hi everyone,
I hope all is well. I put my boat in the water this weekend for the first time.
I ran it for about a hour or hour and a half. I changed the oil and all maintenance before using it for the first time. Boat ran perfect. Good oil pressure, steady temp at 170, runs very strong, no unusual noises. I was pretty impressed. I dry dock the boat so when I pulled it out of the water I removed the drain plug. And bam!!!! 3-4 quarts of new motor oil came out the garboard drain hole!!! I’m hoping it can be something stupid. I’m familiar with auto engines and if the boat is similar I don’t know how all that oil can come out of the engine in that short amount of time. The engine is a 2002 Mercruiser 5.7. It’s nearly impossible to get a good look around under the motor. I changed the oil about a week ago when it was in my driveway and left the garboard drain plug out. I didn’t see any oil leaking when the boat was on the trailer. So it must only be leaking when running. Any thoughts on what it could be?......
Thank you in advance!!
Corey
