1996 370 Sundancer. Looking to replace the microwave with a microwave convection combo. Anyone do this already? What unit did you use? Did you have to do any cabinet modifications?
Thanks for your input...

We had a power surge and it wiped quite a few things, the combo unit was one of them. I took measurements and found an almost identical footprint (same manufacturer). We are a '98 so it's got to be close...

I'm away from the boat and I just went through my records and I don't have it... It's the same as my old one until I get back to the boat that's all I have.

My 2000 380 DA has a Panasonic microwave with inverter technology, if that helps

I've also got a Panasonic (not original) in my boat. The trim is OEM so the size must be nearly identical. Not convection, however.

One thing to consider, at least in my case, is the wattage. The microwave on my boat is just a little more powerful than the OEM unit it replaced. As such I can blow breakers if the water heater is heating, forward air cooling and I hit start on the microwave. The solution is easy, turn off the water heater while you're nuking something. But I thought I'd share :)

Dometic makes them, kinda pricey at $250 for a convection microwave, but not too bad. This biggest issue with these (and all convection microwaves) is you are supposed to have a 7"-8" gap above these units for cooling in the convection mode. I have considered installing one, and add a blower to cool the cabinet around the unit, but I've had other fish to fry. One consideration, this requires a dedicated 20A circuit...my current CB for the microwave is 15A. I would also have to look at the wiring to see if its correct for the install.

If you buy one, let us know how it works out.
