My 1984 Sea Ray Sundancer is overheating. It has sat for 10 years or so. Is it possible that there is a build up of scale in the engine?

The impeller is old as dirt in boating standards, I would start there.
I should of stated that I had a new impeller installed a week before we used it.

After sitting for 10 years, anything is possible.

thermostat rusted shut
Rust/scale blocking water flow from the pump
Manifolds
Risers
Exhaust flappers

Did you verify that you even get water flow from the pump?

I didn’t. I’m new to boating. I assume you mean the water pump on the front of the motor?

Manifolds are likely clogged and restricting water outflow near the elbows.
They are very easy to pull but are very heavy and expensive.
Time to get on you tube and start learning.
Could be a host of other issues also, but manifolds are a good place to start.
Even if that is not the reason, they need to pulled after so long anyway.
