OFFICIAL - 450DA Owner's Thread****

I wonder if the vitricore issues were more prevalent in warmer higher humidity regions. Each boat I looked at south of New Jersey had significant delamination issues...

That’s is a possibility... Our boat was delivered new to a lake in Kentucky, it spent 1 year there, then to So. Cal for 8 years and 13 years up here in Sea-Tac area...

I had the ?Maple. It did have some cracking but not terrible. I loved my 450 DA but the salon seating was uncomfortable to me? I wish SR brain trust would have found another way to put in the washer/dryer combo. I disagree about the washer/dryer usefulness. We used the crap out of it. In the Bahamas and traveling the keys it was very helpful. The Mrs. had to have it and in the end that's all that mattered! JC

Our 98 had a few cracks on the round bends but other than that it was like new. I think a lot of it is what you use to take care of it.

slightly damp rag only and we have 2-3 minor cracks in the bend at the stove/fridge corner...
(don't see them if you don't know they are there)

I bought mine just over a year ago I have been going through the regular necessary maintenance. Having an engine and hull survey are absolutely necessary at this point based on its age. Having both done prior to my purchase provided me with a moderate level of comfort as I had no idea what I was getting into.
After a year of running I ran into the previous owner this weekend , 110 miles from home. I was excited to tell him that all Systems are running well, and that we have nothing but pleasure in our year of ownership.
Btw,, I live and keep my boat in the same waters as the one that was discussed as being for sale...
I sent you a pm

Does anyone with a 450DA have or had a soft area where you step down from the helm station area onto the cockpit floor directly below and adjacent to where the aft cabin sliding window is, just aft of the entrance way down into the cabin. When stepping down onto or walking across ours seems relatively soft by comparison anywhere else in the cockpit. It would about a 8” diameter area. It’s not about to give way or anything like that, but just feels spongy. Because the area is adjacent to the sliding window there isn’t a lot of support in that area so wondering if it’s common or possibly signs delaminated flooring.

The cockpit deck is cored and that aft compartment sliding window is a source for leaks into the cockpit floor.

You should be able to remove the sliding window then remove or the core that you can reach then inject the area with epoxy thru small holes drilled in the cockpit floor where the floor is soft. After injecting epoxy, the holes can be made almost invisible when hand filled with gelcoat.

I bought a new raw water pump for my 3126 CAT portside engine... All I have done before is install new impellers, does anybody have any words of wisdom ? It looks pretty much plug & play ?

Remove the water pump assembly off the boat before you attempt to remove and parts from it because the water pump is driven by a large gear driven by the accessory drive on the front of the engine. When you remove the seawater pump you are left with about a 7" diameter hole that is where everything you drop is going to go. you do not want to have to fish small parts out of the front cover on the engine because they will go straight to the oil pan (which you cannot remove with the engine in the boat.)

The drive gear on the water pump is pressed on the tapered shaft on the front of the seawater pump. It is easy to pop off the shaft using 2 large screw drivers of the same size. Partially remove the water pump gear nut (just back off a turn or 2 and leave the nut in place), then apply and hold some off pressure to the screwdrivers and tap the face of the nut. Be careful not to booger up the end of the shaft. When the drive gear is loose, remove the nut, washer and/or lockwasher and set them aside. Don't strike the pump drive gear with the hammer directly as it will bend or break which will send you to the Cat store parts counter.

Hope that helps............!

Congratulations on the 450. Great Boat. We loved ours, Very easy to maintain and a lot of boat for the buck.We love our 55, But it was hard to see the 450 go.

So it looks like I’m pulling the trigger. On a 95 with 3126.
I have a lot of questions so far. One dumb one is what the stereo set up. There’s one in the cockpit and one in the cabin. Is that standard?

Yes. The one in the cockpit is a 12VDC unit, there is an amp under the center of the dash that powers 4 speakers and a sub-woofer in the cockpi; the one in the salon is a 120VAC unit and is part of the cabin AV system. Honestly, the entire sound system on the early 450DA's is ripe for re-engineering.

Has anyone done anything to upgrade their cockpit sink ? Ours is looking dingy and I'm about to take some 1,000 grit sandpaper to it.... What have you guys done ?
