460 DA Owners Thread

Even though today is my birthday and everyone is telling me to relax, my form of relaxing is getting stuff done and feeling accomplished. I figured while I had a few moments of spare time to relax, I would go ahead and install my birthday present ---- My boat command. I had this capability on my last boat and sold it with the boat so the new owner could monitor the bilge activiities, where the boat is (gps tracker), high/low bilge, temperature sensors and so much more.

Here's a picture of my mock up ... it's sort of installed. It's working but I haven't wired up anything but a temperature sensor for now. If I decide to leave the boat in during winter, it will send me an email and text if the temperature gets above XYZ temp as well as you can set a low temp like 35* so you know it's freezing and need to get your butt down there to turn on/check your bilge heater or whatever action you need to take.

The system is fairly simple to install but has a LOT of wires and a LOT of capability. It works off 2G/3G cellular so no wifi needed. BTW, I don't have any affiliation of the owners of boat command it's just something I love on my boat that provides me some level of assurance.

Enjoy!

So, it pains me to say it but.. the Admiral wants to buy a house now in the Sarasota area,(where we have our boat). Should we do this we will want to sell our boat and get something smaller like a day boat. If you know of anyone that is interested in a 460DA let me know. We have scheduled time to enjoy the boat with family in October, November, December and January. I just thought it prudent to put this out there. It a beautiful boat (Awlgrip paint) that has been babied. Its a 2005 with 920 hrs. Mike K. : This house thing is all your fault, you were so right about Sarasota :) !

Bob, someone will get a great boat!! Let me know when you and the Admiral are in town, we can show you around.

@TheWolfTC -
After all you've gone through to no avail to find your part, I'm just sick about it. Like you, I have common rail, highly computerized engines, and although I love the way they run, I'm always in fear that an ECM, or computer board, will cause problems.

I am amazed that their are not people who can open these components/boards up, find the bad part, repair/replace, and put us back on our way with minimal downtime. It's just a shame.

Sorry you lost the rest of your season on your beautiful boat.

Thanks Carter...it really is a shame on every level. Last week I connected with a couple other people in Europe that thought they could assist, but that to fell through.

I agree on the repair side....someone has to know how to do it, but it can also be a pain when you take a look inside the actual module..picture below. I have no idea how they would get the potting material out to begin with. Then you would need the schematic for the circuit board and I am guessing Volvo isn't going to distribute that freely! From the corporate side, Volvo really dropped the ball on this...to allow the most important part of the engine be phased out before the new vendor is up and running is just moronic at best!

We scheduled the haul out date for October 2nd, so we still have time to sit on it and wish we could go somewhere. At least we have the new dinghy, it has been getting A LOT of use!

What the hell, it's 2020 and nothing has gone right! I even have a jet ski that's been down for over a month now. It started acting up after July 4th and they still haven't gotten it right!

The inside of the EDC...a lot of potting material!

Sorry to hear of your troubles with the ECM; so disappointing. This year has been a crazy one and I'm sure that you will be up and running next year with that beautiful 460.

Good afternoon

On a 2002 460 Sundancer, can someone please advise where the buzzer / siren is hidden that makes a loud wailing noise when the Pre-Heat button is activated on the Westerbeke generator.

The buzzer on my boat is not working and the system keeps blowing fuses, so I would like to find and check the buzzer.

Any other thoughts gladly received.

Thanks

Graham

Out on the boat down south on Chesapeake bay. Hear water pump going off every couple of minutes but only for a few seconds. Normal? Priming water for ice maker?

Hmm ok checked everywhere dont see a leak anywhere i think its air....

Could be the accumulator tank needs to be Pressurized as well....just a thought.

Not normal. Might be a bad diaphragm on the pump - replacing the pump on my BEAUTIFUL (and soon to be on the market) 340 fixed the issue. I recall a number of posts on this forum about water pump cycling, so I’m sure you will find a few answers.

Hi Graham,
I will check when I am at the boat tomorrow. Is it behind the panel in the cabin?
James

Graham

mine is behind the switch panel on the stbd side of the helm chair. I had the blowing fuses problem a long time ago and it was the actual switch in the saloon on the breaker panel. Does it blow the fuse if you start it from the engine room?

Many thanks for the replies, we had almost eliminated the problem as being on the switch panel, so my guy is now checking that out.

It does start in the engine room.

Will let you know how it goes.

Unhook the switch at the breaker panel and start it from the engine room. If all’s well then you identified the problem.

Anyone happen to know the bulb part # for the port & starboard front (red & green) lights?

Thank you,
Tim

Figured it out. I was a dumb ass and left the faucet for the fresh water wash down (for the anchor) on just a little bit. All fixed! Thank you so much. Wow.... can't believe I forgot that.

Almost there. 7610 and 7608 installed and working. 24 radar installed and working. Fusion stereo integrated through harming system. Wireless network up and running so I can control all Garmin systems from my Samsung phone or the iPad. Transducer will be installed in November when we pull the boat for the winter. Going to install camera in the engine room and possibly another camera somewhere at the aft . Have to start working on the engine data connection before we pull it from the water.

Did you end up installing camera in the engine room? If so, is it a wired or wireless model?
