Our idiot governor just signed a brilliant order banning the sale of new motor vehicles that use fossil fuels in the year 2035! That must make him feel so warm and fuzzy and incredibly important! Maybe they will forge a statue in his honor. He just loves to be the trail blazer on such issues because he is so woke. 2035 can't come soon enough because as soon as there are no more fossil fuel burning cars then the forests will stop catching fire don't you know! If you live in a red state and don't need to put up with this crap, good on you!

Hahahaha! What a Tool Newsome is!!

Yeah I saw him on the local news today, crowing about how California (aka him) once again leads the nation. (He thinks that's a good thing). Of course by 2035 he fully expects to have commissioned a presidential library in his own honor.

Mean while the state is burning down, full of Covid and bankrupt...

wasn’t musk just saying he was moving his electric car production out of CA?

...full of homeless shitting all over, it's not regular hopscotch the pedestrians are playing. In CA there is even such a thing as 'shit graffitti'.

Newsom, Captain of the starship California, going boldly where no man has gone before.

On my last visit there we took a early morning bike ride along the beach from Santa Monica to Marina Del Ray....perhaps your governor ought to focus on the more pressing issue of homeless vagrants absolutely everywhere. Sunrise in Venice Beach is like dawn of the dead!

Hasn't California gone bankrupt yet? We had a Liberal premier in Ontario that floated a similar idea about all natural gas appliances being banned by some future date. Including furnaces --- and this is Canada! Her "feel good" idea was that we would all embrace renewable power generation and everything could be done with electricity.

The hidden reason for that proposal was that a few years early the Liberals decided Ontario should be early adopters of renewable energy and signed up Feed-In-Tariff fixed price contracts for producers to get fixed pricing for 25 years if they built up wind and solar generation. Wind was paid at C$0.43/Kwh and Solar at C$0.84 per Kwh. And huge capacity was built at insane cost per KwH. And we have to buy all they produce. So that meant the cheaper govt owned power (like nuclear and hydro electric) had to scale back to compensate, and there was huge amounts of excess power being sold into the US grid for basically free. The "solution" was to increase consumption so that the cheaper excess would be used instead of sold off, which would take the unit cost of power down "on paper" because the fixed cost of nuclear and hydro-electric would be spread over more generation. The problem was that the cost was too high for new power hungry industry to start up, so it had to be individuals power consumption that needed to be "incented" to increase by switching from gas to electricity and go green.

So they created a massive cost problem and then tried to dupe the people into going "green" to partially fix it. Smoke and mirrors. Sometimes people can be so stupid. Thank god the Provincial Liberals are out of power and we have a Conservative Premier that runs Ontario like a business. But we are saddled with those stupid overpriced contracts for another 20 years.

Are you allowed In Ontario to order a mixed drink in a restaurant yet ?

Another naive point of Ontario’s energy plan was the claim that there would be “tens thousands of “green” jobs created”....to be eligible for government incentives for the windmill and solar farms, the parts had to be from Ontario manufacturing.
This was quickly struck down by the World Trade Organization, so the jobs never materialized.
Also, numerous companies fled to New York State, where the smarter government there offered tax incentives and cheap electricity (from the excess electricity Ontario was selling them)......more job losses.
And the architects of the provincial Green Energy Plan are now advising our idiot Prime Minister as he posts record deficits trying to spend our way to prosperity and a green sustainable future....
And to fund our green energy utopia...Trudeau proposed the next budget would have a 10% “luxury tax” (in addition to our average 14% sales tax) on all cars, aircraft and BOATS over $100 k.

Yes, Canada has its problems as well.

And to your question Blueone....we can order a mixed drink, but still have to buy our spirits from a provincially run liquor store at about double the price that you can find in the states.

Yes, for months. Restaurants have distancing requirements though, so capacity is limited. I worry many won't make it. Especially those small ones that are often family run or high end specialty ones.

Agreed. And those jobs were never going to be anything but a "blip". Another interesting fact was the vast majority of the FIT contract wind and solar projects were backed by foreign investment and/or banks and many were immediately flipped to foreign investors. There was a required 25% investment by the local developer. But 75% was open to other investors. So the majority of the cash flow we are paying is going outside of the country to foreign investors.

Back to the topic at hand.......does this mean CA is going to ban all powerboats before 2035? I realize he is trying to reach a new level of stupid voters in Kalifornia and he won't be around in 2035 so someone else would have to actually deal with it. Still, this is a new level of stupid even for him.

Arsonist setting fires = blame it on Global Warming/Trump
Homelessness out of control = blame it on Global Warming/Trump
High income earners leaving by the 1,000s = blame it on Trump
Rolling electrical blackouts =blame it on Global Warming/Trump

Seriously....when are Kalifornia voters going to wake up? If they don't their future is Venezuela. Maduro did all the same things and now no one has gas or electricity and the people with any money have left.

I've wondered about that for some time as both of my children live in northern CA. Essentially, the budget is funded by very high tax rates on the citizens and the high tech industry is tremendously profitable in spite of the the taxes on business. The economy of CA is huge and bigger than most countries. While the economy of the State is rich, CA still has to sell "revenue bonds" which are low interest bonds, the proceeds of which are used for operating expenses. When a series of bonds is paid off, the State sells more to continue operations. In spite of this, more money is needed and they just raised taxes on the wealthy and I believe a new fuel tax as well. This has been going on for decades and never seems to end. Both of my children have considered leaving but have great jobs that are too lucrative to leave for now.

My parents lived in Phoenix. That town is not what it used to be. Becoming more crowded and crime rates are going up as we speak.

If there is anything good from Covid it is people working from their home can do it anywhere. One of my daughters just left Kalifornia because the headquarters where she works decided Arizona was a better place to be. I can't imagine having a business in Kalifornia. The whole State is a house of cards. The voters are getting exactly the stupidity that they voted for.
