Hey People....My wife and I have decided to make some changes in our lives. We will be moving out of the People's Socialist Republic of NY to a freedom State like Florida. Don't worry....we are not from the City part of NY. We're NOT those type of people. We have more cows than humans.
I am looking to go to the St.Augustine area and the also, check out the Cape Coral Sarasota area. I will have my 31ft DA shipped down there and live on the boat for several months until its time to bring my family down.
I am going to try and put the boat in one of the freahwater canals which I understand there are plenty but in the event I have to be in the gulf what are some suggestions to properly keep my FW kept boat in its new SW home?

We live near St. Augustine and we love it. We have our boat in the SW canal next to the house. I'm not familiar with FW canals, but SW canals abound on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. If you do get a SW canal I suggest a lift for the boat to get the B3 drive out of the water.

The boating is better on the Gulf Coast, IMO. More places to go, calmer Gulf water. It's hotter and more humid on the Gulf coast. Also more congested on land (traffic & people). Cape Coral is a boater's paradise in one way. So many SW canals. I have heard it's a good idea to get your home close to the open water to avoid a long ride.

Sarasota is a wonderful place and so is Bradenton/Palmetto.

Good luck & gave fun whatever you choose!

Bring it on down to the RedNeck Riviera: Pannama City to the Pensicola area. Property values are reasonable and the boating is better than just OK.

Third edition...I have twin inboards.

Stephen.....family friendly??

True fresh water canals are not connected to the gulf. You put in at a ramp and are stuck in that small canal system. Right now there are no mobile pump out services in cape coral.

You might be thinking a brackish canal which can access the gulf. I believe there are laws preventing you from living aboard even if behind a house.

Many live aboard at the various marinas. Typically seasonally.

+1 on the boat lift because of the outdrives. We are in brackess to salt and though we don't get an excessive amount of barnacles on the hull, just a few are a pain in the gelcoat to remove! The 290 we had was on a lift. The 360 sits behind the house in the canal so I dive the boat prior to a trip for cleaning and a general bottom check up.
After 21 years being down here from Ct. and Mass., I can tell you for us it is boating heaven! I'm sure you will do your reseach on locations that will best work for you.
Best of luck!
Dennis
