I'm kinda interested in looking at a boat in Vancouver BC but wondering how to do that logistically. Anyone looked into doing that. I wonder if one were to pay to have the boat brought into the closest US harbor for viewing and survey, how that would work. This Covid thing must be making selling a boat in Canada to a US resident quite frustrating.

I looked online and talked to a couple brokers in the spring and their answer was basically that there is no great way to get it here during covid regulations. It Sucks, but I’m glad I didn’t buy one in the fall to plan on bringing back in the spring to then find myself not able to even go up there to get it

Call both Canadian and us customs..... stuff is going back and forth all day long

I have heard a licensed captain can cross borders to deliver a boat But only crew is allowed. The owner cannot be on board.

Yeah, I would also suggest calling U.S. Customs. They told me (a Canadian) that I could still come in to the U.S. by air or water. Going back to Canada, for a Canadian, is only complicated by the mandatory 14 day quarantine period. I was planning to look at a boat in Everett.

Canadians can only go to the U.S. by air, not water, unless they are deemed essential or have special circumstances then the 14 day quarantine is still in place upon return. We boat out of a border marina and I have seen a number of cross-border transactions this year. A Canadian 58DB sold recently to a U.S. buyer and both sides worked together with the survey and mechanical valuation. They even did a video sea trial from what I understand before a professional captain then delivered the boat to Chicago. So it is possible to do this but the only person who can bring the boat across currently is a professional captain, with pre-approval.
One day in July, I was at our fuel dock (I miss running across the river for red dye diesel, haha) when the Canadian Coast Guard, Canadian Customs (CBSA) and four groups of new owners all showed up. Then four boats came over from Michigan and the delivery captains all stepped off onto a chase boat and went back. So, it is possible.

Dated September 20, 2020, regarding travel restrictions: "This action does not apply to entry into the United States from Canada via air, rail, or sea travel at this time, but does apply to commuter rail and ferry travel."

You will find the exchange rate on US to CDN will vary. With large sum you should be able to get a very good rate. Seems 10K if first rate drop then 50K then 100K. Wire transfer is simplest. Make sure you check with US and CDN customs on the rules for moving large dollar amounts across boarder before you send payment.

I think we will just wait for a local boat to surface. Everything about boat buying for me needs to be simple and stress free or what s the point after all. I am not buying a boat via ZOOM!
Cheers All

Boats are like women.... there is no “simple” if she is perfect :)

LOL! But thousands of idiots will select the leader of the free world by watching the news on tv.

On our recent trip to The Thousand Island area of upstate NY, we met a couple in Oswego NY who had bought a sailboat in the Boston Mass area in October of '19. Their plan was to leave the boat in MA until the spring of this year and then take it Home to Ontario. Then came Covid. This spring they shipped some stuff to the boat and flew to the US, spent the summer enjoying the NE and the Chesapeake. They were laying the boat up for the winter in Oswego and coming back for it in the spring of '21. They said they had a fantastic summer here.

Even though the border is closed, Canadians can fly into the States but they have to quarantine for 14 days when the return.
Also the matter of health trip insurance but some, if not most, insurance companies are covering Covid 19.
