Recent thread about Sea Ray and a Dealer

And, I think that is the problem with letting threads like this turn into open bitch sessions. ClubSeaRay.com is a privately owned business, it isn't a democracy. As such we all agreed to abide by the rules management established when we joined. Incessant complaining about something only the original poster knew the facts behind serves no constructive purpose. Obviously, the principals involved, i.e. the boat owner, Sea Ray Management and /or the Dealer are working thru normal channels to remedy the boat owner's dissatisfaction with his new boat. Nobody participating in this thread had anything to do with the outcome.

That's for sure - thanks! And now if you can stop google from populating ads all over the site that would take care of the other trash.

I think I have the google ads under control. I was not aware they had multiplied. I think the site must have been hacked and there were google ads from another account on here.

Here are the ads you should see, and why.

Site Supporters (Silver, Gold, Platinum) that are logged in - should only see banner ads on the right of the screen and one across the top. These are only ads from vendors that specifically support CSR. I feel these vendors are part of the community. When on a PC they do not get in the way of using the forum, and when on mobile only the top banner will show, also not really getting in the way.

Registered users that are logged in - Will see the same ads above that site supporters will see, along with some google ads that will fill in periodically in these same ad positions, and some extra banners going across the screen in thread lists and within threads.

Unregistered users - will see everything listed above, as well as some extra banners in the lists. Banners may even pop up within messages. If any of this bothers you, just register.

I am OK with some political comments. As stated above, if it is not your thing - skip it. I do strongly feel any negativity or bashing should be reviewed and considered for removal. A bad review of a product or bad experience with a vendor should stay as it is a forum and the opinions of many on here are well received. Please don't take down ALL the non boating comments, be selective - Thanks.

If this site ever becomes a thorn in the side of Sea Ray, or if a dealer getting bashed puts enough pressure on Sea Ray to make it stop, then the site will be closed. Am I going to try to fight a huge corporation like that with a hundred $25 donations and some revenue from google ads? No.

I agree that bad companies should be outed. But it is not going to happen on this site. There lots of other places you can do it on the interwebs. This site is for constructive conversation, stories and camaraderie for a brand universal to the members. A happy place.

So, the blanket policy is that there will be no negative conversation about the brand or a dealer. I am not going to pick and choose.

I agree 100% with respect to the brand and dealers... I don’t agree so much about the politics......but you set the rules

Very true! It's amazing how many other brand forums have gone essentially silent over the past few years as many moved to Facebook....but alas...the knowledge isn't there...and....well...it's Facebook.

I'm good with this - but how do we get them to show up in the "New Posts" feed?

CSR has never been busier. My informal way to stay on top of traffic is to simply view how many posts there were in the last day. It is as high as it has ever been. We get between 4,000 and 6,000 unique visitors a day. You all have done a fine job of keeping it civil around here and providing great and useful content for Sea ray owners.

Allowing political posts is a slippery slope. At some point, somebody will get their feeling hurt, then I'll have top delete a post, then somebody else will say the site is censored, then it will spiral out of control. So... the blanket policy is to not allow political posts. However, we do make them available in the Holding Tank if you really want to use CSR as your vehicle for political conversation. Why the Holding Tank? Because threads in the holding tank do not show up in the feed of Recent Posts. So the general members can log onto the site, click Recent Posts, and should just see good content about boating, or Sea Ray or whatever. They do not have to see political posts. I think most people generally come to a place like this to avoid that.

If you want to see the political posts, just click into the Holding Tank and have at it. This was the most well rounded solution I could figure out to keep everybody happy.

So the blanket policy here is that no political posts are allowed, except in the holding tank. I will move them to the holding tank if I am alerted.

Facebook has become "the place" to go for general conversation. I am a big Facebook user myself and generally go there before I go to a forum. But the downside is that it is hard to find information if you are researching something. There is no substitute for Forums for archiving info.

I have always had a CSR Facebook Page, initially it was our safety tree in case the main website ever went down, so that I could keep everybody in the loop. I always wondered why it never got much activity. I just realized I had it set up like a company page and not a group. Oops. So I just created a new Facebook Group for CSR for those of you into social media. It is here, https://www.facebook.com/groups/247355990036949

You are the best Jim - Thanks!

Thanks Jim. You run a great site.

This site has helped us maintain and run our boat. Members have a vast array of knowledge, experience, access to technical information and manuals that have save us a great deal of time and money. We have a jetboat and have not found a forum as good as this to help us maintain it. Information on this site has helped us more with our jetboat more than other sites. It is very interesting seeing how different areas go boat and the cruising areas.

Thank you, Jim for setting up this site! I'm basically a newbie here, but I've gotten lots of great information, and hopefully shared a few valuable tidbits. Since you posted about the political stuff, I'd just like to share that I see a lot of political stuff in the Tiki Bar. In fact, one of the first posts I made was in there, asking if political posts are allowed... because at the top it clearly says no. You might want to take a look at some of those.
