48 DA Owners Club

Had a customer/friend who built a N75. He was an ex-pilot and did a great job with redundant systems on that boat. came out great and was a beautiful boat. "Tortuga" But as he always said..."life at 8 knots" is a different lifestyle. For sure at this point of my life there would be no way I could do it, but who knows maybe later in life 8 knots is full speed???

It will sure be a change. We want to get south and move towards a live-aboard set up. Our 48 is an awesome boat and I sure hesitated when it came time to list it for sale. Our plans are over the next 12-18 months but have to get the current boat sold first.

Can't blame you for wanting to move south... Thats one thing for sure I will never move north.

So today was clean the shower sump and install the Water Witch. What a mess this project is. Still cleaning from the PO and all the soap scum. No more bars of soap on the boat. Even the wifey was grossed out. Good news is I found my leak that was filling my forward bilge while under way. When i went to remove the standard float switch I found the machine screw hand broken off on the bow side and water was leaking through the threads. Would have never known this but I disconnect the float switch and filled the sump with water to use the shop vac to suck out the crap and I look up and see the bilge area filling with water. I jammed my head in the starboard side to see under the sump and low and behold water running down the bold in the hole. I removed remaining bolt and siliconed it up... no more leak...YEAH!!! Now installed the Water Witch switch and wired it up. WOW what a difference, never gets above the lower area now and very fast to react. Great solution and hopefully I am done in that shit hole for awhile.... Sorry no pics, I forgot.

Nice work! Cleaning the sump is always a fun chore. I add a little NoFlex at the end of every weekend and (like you said) switched to only body wash and it’s been a far more pleasant ride. On the Water Witch, I know you have no pics, but if you could explain which wire went to where and where you mounted it, that’d be helpful. I have the WW, just haven’t wired it up yet in this box just yet. Last time, I remember over thinking it and confusing myself which wire goes where in line to the pump. They work really well.

Simple
red from witch to boat +
tan from witch to pump (brown) +
black from witch and pump (dark grey) to boat -

Too much canvas which is what I hate. Next boat has to have a sliding door.
Walter, Even with my sliding door I still put up the aft canvas to cover the cockpit upholstery when we leave the boat. You can't get away from it!!!

Need some help!....Error 2265 – Prime Pump High Error popped up this weekend. It’s come up before but went away. After searching the SBMar forums it seems like either “Clean the Contacts” or replace the Fuel Transfer Pump. What are your thoughts on this and if it’s replace the pump, how difficult is it? I was told that this thing sits behind the ECM. Also, I feel stupid for asking this as I should know this, are the QSC's in the 48 Sundancer 12 or 24 Volt systems? This damn little pump comes in 12 or 24v.

Jeff:

I experienced the 2265 error code as well and had the Fuel Priming / Lift Pump replaced on my QSC 8.3 600 a month ago. Mine is a 12v pump and I'm pretty sure your is too. I ordered the pump from SBMR and had my mechanic replace the pump because, it was the starboard engine and a pain in the ass to get to. The pump is attached to the back of the ECM which I have no idea why SR put it there. If your issue is the port motor it shouldn't be that difficult to change. Make sure you order the (4) o-rings for the fuel line connections.

Thanks Keith and thank god it's the port engine!

Was at the boat today and checked the sump after a solid couple of days using here with the new water witch... WOW big difference, lower water line and cleaner sump. Super happy with this choice.

Pretty excited for my new addition to my 48. Now I just have to get this thing hauled out. Has anyone replaced their SV20's with the SeaBlazeX2? Obviously the SV20's are a through hull so there will be big holes through the hull which concerns me a bit. I read a thread on here awhile back where the coverage area on the SeaBlazeX2 is plenty to cover the through hull hole left by the SV20's. I'm hoping I get a competent tech at the yard...these days that's a lot to ask for.

We did this last winter. We choose too have the holes left behind fully repaired and they had the ability to lay out the new lights any way we liked. We did 6 Lumitec X2 RWGB's.

Those look great! I may do the same and just have them do some glass work. I got the RWGB's too. Thanks for sharing.

Keith, looking for some advise here and not sure if you know but thought I'd ask. I received the pump today and I'm ready to install but after looking at the ECM, it's not really clear to me where to start. Should I remove all the electrical connections? If so, is it as simple as using an Allen wrench to loosen the connectors? Are there 4 nuts/bolts holding the ECM on? Any insight you or anyone can share?

Jeffery, what does this pump look like in the raw?
