This year at my marina and nearby has been very active with break ins. Over last winter I installed a Camera with a DVR system that works great. The problem is I don't know what is going on until its too late. At first I was thinking of a couple of those snap and door sensors connected to a siren. If I do that I won't know when it goes off. There are systems like Boatcommand and Yacht protector, but not sure if they have a siren and how good they are. I'd like to be alerted on my phone along with a siren if someone breaks in. Low monitoring cost would be nice.

What are you guys using and how does it work?
Thanks

There are plenty of options using cellular technology that can alert you when the door is opened maybe a snap on canvas is taken off shore power being removed etc.

Simrad
Siren
Ghost ( sat)

If you’re at a marina with reliable Wi-Fi you can also use home technology like ring etc.

I’ve been looking at Siren. It’s what I would put on my next boat. It does not have cameras though.

Good WiFi needed, but I installed a router and a SmartThings hub with sensors then I can view on my phone, Tablet etc.anywhere they give you temp/vibration others are for water (ER) bilge I even have smart lights that turn on / off on a schedule so others think I’m on the boat. Door sensors alert when open/closed I installed them on the doors and hatches.Onboard cameras are through a Computer they I view through goggle desktop remote app. And a ring in the cockpit not sure why they say offline they’re not.

I have a Siren marine system installed on my boat. Cost of purchase is kind of high but annual cost is not for what I’m getting in my opinion. I can check on the boat real time and you can have sensors set off sirens. I have Sensors on my salon door, bridge hatch and engine room hatch And they all set off a very loud siren when triggered. They also alert me by text and email when triggered. I can also monitor shore power, bilge pump’s and other things such as air temperature if you wish. I’m happy with the system.
The system is cellular so no Wi-Fi needed.

we don't have a break in problem (fingers crossed) but I do like to know if something is going on up top so I bought a Canary wireless camera. It just connects to wifi and has cloud storage, also does near real time alerts (probably a minute or so) but it was cheap and gets the job done for what I was looking for

At home I use Unifi - but that's a different level of system and I wouldn't want to wire the boat for it

I have two Arlo go cameras on the boat. They are battery operated for months and use cell service, so no need for wifi and they are great for winter storage as well. They are motion activated or sound activated if selected, you get notified on the phone, you can talk to the person at your boat or scare them with the built in siren to spook them off and everything is recorded with a memory stick in the camera and the internet.

What's the thing hanging off the back of your swim platform?

I added a cellular hot spot to my boat and currently run the Wyze cameras. Power outages are no issues as everything can run off a battery.

Our marina wifi was too spotty to reliably notify me of motion as it was happening. Turns out I was able to add a hot spot with 6gb for $25/mo to our cell phone plans, which made it a no brainer.

I have a friend with Siren marine, but for less than $150 for the cameras and hot spot device plus $25 a month I have live views of my cockpit and cabin, in addition to getting instant notifications of any motion.

$25/mo for 6GB is really good, which carrier are you with? I assume you had to purchase the hardware for the hotspot too, what did you go with?

T- Mobile. It was $10 for 2gb.... but I found myself playing with the cameras too often and burned through that before my billing cycle is up

It's a Franklin T9, $89. I had to adjust a setting so it'd stay on 24/7 but so far so good. I'll deactivate it in a few weeks when I haul out and turn it back on in April.

SimpliSafe is based on cellular signal and if you have wi-fi in your marina then you can add cameras. I have 3 motion detectors, 3 door switches, 2 temp alarms, water alarm, CO & smoke alarms. $25/mo no contract. If you decide it's for any of you, please share my name & I get a free month of monitoring :)

How much data does that use. I have a router with cameras and a dvr on the boat. My WiFi got spot kinda sucks. A ring with Verizon data sounds like the best way, but how much does it use? Is the hot spot 12 volts?

Hot spot is battery operated and I have it plugged into a USB charger in a 110v outlet, could do 12v but since it has the battery I just let it run off shorepower. The cameras use no data unless it sends me a notification (it uploads a video) or I dial in. 2gb a month should suffice.
