Are you a fan of Facebook, Instagram, etc?

so, you'll love this, i got my first iphone a few weeks ago, so i decide to join FB cause i figure i can get good deals on Marketplace. as part of my profile, i put in my birthday. Wife says "bad idea" change it. so i change it to 01/01/2020. FB says i am too young to use FB and i need to send them a photo of my drivers license. OH HELL SH!T FK DAM NO!. so i guess you wont be seeing me on FB in this lifetime.
There are laws regarding use of online data for minors. Therefore no one under 13 can use Facebook or other social sites. It’s supposed to help safeguard kids. I have run into issues trying to set up gaming related accounts for my kids because of this.

I’m no fan of any of them. I do see CSR wants us to join them, I’m sorry NO

I'll offer a contrasting opinion, which is seems like I do quite often in this board.

I use facebook regularly, and I like the way it let's me passively keep in touch with many people who would otherwise not be part of my life. I stay in touch with relatives who are distant and friends who I haven't seen in decades.

I have become closer with people who I went to school with but wasnt really friends with, because I've discovered I have more in common than I knew, and they have grown into interesting people.

I choose what to post and who to follow. I dont have my birthday on facebook, and am selective about other information that I post.

It also let's me see perspectives that are really different than mine, which I think is important to being a critical thinker.

That being said, I dont have an interest in accessing CSR content through facebook. I'll stick with this site as.long as we have the option.

I'm not on any of those. I am on Twitter and Linkedin but that's it. Linkedin is career related and my Twitter is only for stock trading. Anyone want to see my Twitter let me know. It's all stock market stuff but if you are interested. I have links to my youtube videos for stock trading on there.

1) I use facebook regularly, and I like the way it let's me passively keep in touch with many people who would otherwise not be part of my life. I stay in touch with relatives who are distant and friends who I haven't seen in decades.

Exactly!

2) I have become closer with people who I went to school with but wasnt really friends with, because I've discovered I have more in common than I knew, and they have grown into interesting people.

And when I had my health issue - these friends reached out to see if they could help me. I never expected it as we not close is school. This blew me away!

3) I choose what to post and who to follow. I dont have my birthday on facebook, and am selective about other information that I post.

I am pretty selective about personal stuff. But I do post a lot of jokes and memes that I find funny.

4) That being said, I dont have an interest in accessing CSR content through facebook. I'll stick with this site as.long as we have the option.

I am currently following the CSR thread... Mostly it's pictures of peoples boats and "Thanks for the add"... And typical questions like "My 1999 180 BR won't start. Any ideas why".... I might unfollow it shortly.

If you believe FB is only a medium for you to post outward bound content you are naive.

FB has the rights and capability to look inward at you and all your search activity. They also store your data and run through predictive analytics.

They own you.

I don't use any of the social media platforms except forums like this. I find most of the info / postings on FB, etc. unhelpful, unless I want a fast way to get frustrated and angry. I experience the same with TV / Cable news, so I quit watching that too! ;)

Some of this sounds like a few if you have watched the docudrama social dilemma, if not it is must watch and can be found on Netflix.

If your wife is still hooked on social media, I hope she's found a way to balance it with other aspects of life.

Never been on Facebook, I have twitter and follow news and sports mainly, oh and bikinis

I recently got instagram to follow a few sports guys, but have never posted, in fact I don’t really understand the format

I finally broke down and reestablished my FB account to follow an RV and Alfa Romeo groups but rarely even think to log in.

I am not on Facebook, Twitter, instagram etc nor do I have any interest in starting. I look at this forum, a gun forum and some news.

If I need to do banking, I go to the bank. No online banking. I try not to buy things on line at all but sometimes it can't be helped.

Pretty boring I guess

Dave, you and I are just about polar opposites. No, I am not on social media but I do about 99% of my banking online and I do a fair amount of shopping on Amazon. Saves on fuel costs, prices are generally better than the box stores, shipping is free, and I guess that's my "social media" life. Oh, except for CSR. Guy's gotta have one bad habit, right?

I just realized this thread is from three years ago. Time flies, doesn't it? Anyway, I wanted to thank you for sharing your thoughts and recommending "The Social Dilemma." It's definitely a powerful film that sheds light on the negative impact of social media. I totally get what you mean about the addictive nature of those platforms. It's like they have the power to instantly grab your attention, just like those instant Instagram views we're all familiar with. It's crazy how these sites can become such a big part of our lives, right? I hope things have changed for the better since this thread started.

You guys want to watch a really good show watch (Dope Sick)... Its anther show about oxides... It shows what they did with that drug...

I'm on FB but rarely go on anymore, twitter, only to follow racing guys. Online banking, how can you live without it!? I forget what a bank actually looks like. Cash back at almost every grocery and debit card purchase around.

FB Groups turn into all of the same thing, bitching about something and when someone asks the same question or post's against what they think, your steam rolled with crap. I can live without that. Most of who I care about has left FB so I am slowly go to the way side with that one.

Those who know me on here, know I am on here way too much and need to slow it down some how. But work is boring at times and this place fixes that :)
