Bromine Boys... after a few years the strainer basket will eventually fail... took 8 years for mine to fail...

Never an issue of growth...

And how and where, pray tell, do you introduce bromine to the nasty zebras?

Tell us about the details of the Chartplotter upgrade and the installation details.. Plug and play? New cables? Looks great!!

I went from a single Raymarine E120 to dual Garmin GPSMAP1242+. Not exactly plug and play, but not too difficult. Had to replace the radar and run the new cables. Also ran NMEA2000 and Ethernet to the engine room for the DST800 transducer and GC200 camera. The rest of the wiring was all behind the dash.

Also added the Mercury NMEA2000 gateway to bridge the Smartcraft data. That part was plug and play and works very well. Get all of the engine data (except the generator) from the Diesel View to the new Garmin displays.

Very happy with the system so far. Got a few more things to add (GT51 transducer at haul out, GXM53 XM/Sirius Module, etc.)

Let me know if you have any questions...

Got a Vacuflush question... Both systems on the boat are working fine. Recently however, I hear the the vacuum pump from the forward head (port side) kick on for 5 seconds or so every several hours. Assume that means there’s a small vacuum leak somewhere? I replaced all of the seals on the toilet a couple of weeks ago (small water leak). Would the duck bills be the next likely suspect?

Did you replace the shaft and/or the shaft o-rings on the foot pedal? I had a similar issue and replacing those o-rings fixed it. The assembly is about $50, or you can take the o-rings to the local hardware store and match them up.

When you flush it, hold pedal down for a bit, and run your gloved finger up under the sealing surface. You could have a rogue piece of TP just stuck under there. Start simple.

I think that’s the only seal I didn’t replace. Will definitely check for the Rogue TP first. Thanks for the help, Fellas!

Yes, as long as you are confident in the toilet seals. Did you use silicone grease on the seals when you replaced them? If so head to the duck bill valves. I did the duckbill valve replacements this past summer and posted some good information earlier in the forum.

My engines are Cummins 8.3 QSC. I'm hoping someone can help....Walker Airsep filters (conical) are in need of cleaning. Should I be using red or blue oil? I'm now editing this post because a bunch of searches tell me red or blue oil are the exact same. I'm going blue for Cummins.

I just ordered the BLUE
Part# BAF2016
got it direct from walker $47.99 all in

If I remember correctly, the red/blue are the same, only brand specific. Like Quicksilver vs Mercury. I always used the K&N filter cleaner and red oil and never had an issue on the 8.3s I had in our 44DB....tremendous savings.....

I did do it myself. I removed the existing transducer, ran a NEMA backbone extender to the bilge and installed a Garmin DST800 transducer. Chart Plotter is 8612 xsv. At the same time, I changed out Raymarine VHF and added Garmin VHF 300, and a Vesper XB-8000 AIS, with its own dedicated GPS antenna. While I was at it, I replaced the VHF antenna. Tecnografix made the dash panels.

Before I changed anything else my local vacuflush dealer said run hot water through the toilet which I did. I cleaned out a lot of what was stuck. They also said forget about all the fancy chemicals we all keep buying. Take some powder tide and pour that down the toilet. It rids the system of the bacteria you don’t want and keeps what you do. Been working perfectly and holding pressure for a while now.

Thanks for that. I’ll give it a shot. Still cycling every few hours after trying the glove test above...

I had done that as well as flushing a cup of Dawn detergent, both of which were temporarily helpful. I ended up needing the duckbill valves replaced which solved the problem permanently.

I’ve always used Noflex but now I’m switching to tide. It’s a helluva lot cheaper and if it does the same work I’m in. I just replaced all 4 duck valves, filter, bowl seal, etc. Top to bottom. My calendar is set to remind me in 1 year for the filter and 2 years for the valves. I’ll give it at least a year to see if tide works.

Also, we had some kids on the boat and the clogged the toilet. Wouldn’t hold pressure and occasionally wouldn’t flush and running 5 or 6 pots of hot water cleared it up. Easiest boat fix I’ve had in a while.
