Hello everyone, the other day I was anchored in about 100 foot of water and the rope on the anchor snapped and we lost our anchor along with the chain.

I'm shopping around for some new chain and rope and wanted to know what some of you recommend for the length. I was thinking of doing 200 feet of chain and 200 feet of rope. Should I do more rope and less chain?

The dimensions I'm looking at are 5/16 chain and 5/8 rope.

I have a 480 sedan bridge and it has the lofran 1

xdr, I would take your loss as a sign that you need to change over from a chain/rope anchor rode to one that is all chain.

Yes, it will cost you more up front, but the next time the line snaps and you lose another anchor you'll be kicking yourself for not doing it right this time.

If I do all chain, what length are you guys running with? Have you noticed any difference with the additional weight while cruising?

What size anchor are you going to buy?

Where are you anchoring in SoFlo that deep? I have 200 feet of chain and it does fine everywhere I go? Granted I am a "fair-weather" boater.

I need chain too. Where would be the best place to purchase 200’?

A couple of thoughts. 1) 100ft of water requires 500-700ft of rode. 2) always have some rope in case you need to cut your anchor and lose it for the safety of the boat. 3) 150-200ft of chain should be enough and then any additional is rope.4) I believe the Progess 1 uses G4 BBB chain.

With a boat your size, any reasonable about of chain won’t make a lick of difference in the trim. I added 250’ of chain to a 34’ boat and didn’t notice it at all.

Are you sure of those dimensions? I just bought a replacement of the same from Lewmar for our boat. You’ve got ten feet and easily 10,000 pounds. I would expect it to be a size larger.

Well we where using the boat to fish last night and we decided to drop anchor in a spot that was biting a lot hence the 100 feet deep water. Most expensive fish I have ever caught..:D

The dimensions that I am using are base on what the sea ray manual has for replacement parts for the anchor. So far the best price I have have received is from Sailor Man in fort Lauderdale at $2.70 a foot.

The 65lb holds like a champ but it looks huge on the bow. So I was thinking of going smaller for aesthetics and I think it will probably hold just as good.
Nope. A bigger anchor will "always" hold better than a smaller one. They dig in better and resist pulling out better. Don't worry about the astethics. You're likely the only one that will ever notice it.

How are you able to contact him? I would like 300 foot.
