We have just purchased a 2003 420DA that needs a lot of cosmetics. I will get around to installing a nice sound system, but not at the top of the list and may be a while. The boat is equipped with a CMD1 head unit and remote at the helm. I have an opportunity to pick up a CMD6 unit in great condition for almost nothing.

Question-Will the CMD6 unit be plug and play utilizing the same wiring, plugs, etc? Thanks for any help!

I think I went through this a couple of years ago and found out that the answer is no. I believe the newer unit is not compatible with the remote control at the helm and will not connect to the CD changer. But I may be wrong...

Whoops...forgot this...I have the newer remote for the CMD6 also. I only need to know if he wiring will connect. Thanks!

Reach out to clarion. They make adapters for some of the older units. I did that for a lower remote in my cockpit. Worked great.

Do you by chance me "XMD1"? The CMD series began with the CMD4.

The XMD series has a wider face, and IIRC, not as tall as the CMD. This may leave old mounting screw holes exposed.

If the CMD6 comes with its power harness, then just swap it out. Should be color for color. I dont recall for sure, but I believe the XMD1 has the same round 6-pin remote cable as the CMD6.

Bennett, I don't think the wiring plug is the same but all the wires match up color for color. There is an 8pin to 6pin cable adapter for using your existing remote wiring. I also think the CMD6 is compatible with an app but you might need the wifi adapter. Let me know if you need help installing, I'd be happy to help. That's a very capable unit.

My two cents - get the Fusion head unit you'll ultimately want in the future, now. Save yourself from running that remote cable twice :)
Indeed - like I did....:(
