Anyone have a security system?

Hmmmm, my security system doesn't use any data, doesn't need a wifi connection and is always at hand.

Hot spot is battery operated and I have it plugged into a USB charger in a 110v outlet, could do 12v but since it has the battery I just let it run off shorepower. The cameras use no data unless it sends me a notification (it uploads a video) or I dial in. 2gb a month should suffice.
Thanks. What hot spot do you have again?

Thanks for your input. I like all options, but really can't find what I'm looking for. I like the Siren system and don't mind the start up cost. I also like the smart home idea. As for the Siren.. Paying for monitoring is fine, but I also would like to have a hot spot for say tv and internet separate. With Siren it's just used for Siren and that's it. If I went Smarthome I can get a 15gb hot spot for $20 a month and be able to use it for multiple things. The problem is with that is it doesn't have the option for a aux helm snap module along with it needs 120v. If the power goes out so does the unit. I'm looking for something like this that runs off 12 volts. Any Idea where I can get something like this?

It shouldn't be that hard to make that work on 12v...it only pulls 2 watts.

In a prior boat, I wired in a 120v TV to 12v. It's 120v transformer had output voltage of 12v and it was a very easy install. So I'd be curious what output it's transformer has.

Yea I'm going to call them tomorrow. I'm sure I can figure out the voltage thing. Also I don't think they have a app for this. It just looks web based.
This may be another option https://boatcommand.com/ I'm not too sure of support though. There's no phone number.

Hot spots usually connect to a usb charger, and those can be connected to 12 Volts if that’s what you are trying to do. I like my Arlo go cameras that have a battery that last months and use cell service. No dependence on any kind of power or wifi. Great for winter storage as well in case someone decides to pay the boat an unauthorized visit.

What's the up front and monthly cost on those?

You can get a camera for around $200-250 on eBay. Then you add it to your home cell service. For me on AT&T it’s a $20/month cost because I already have other phones for the family. They do sell a solar charger for them if you want to install and forget. The battery usually lasts a couple of months. I have a spare that I charge at home and just replace once in a while.

I put a boat command in my 340da and it had the same functionality as the Siren System does. I went with siren on the new boat because Boat Command was way further behind in terms of the app, support and most importantly a variety of sensors to use with the system. Also, Siren has
More options with the Wirless sensors which made some of the less important sensors such as the hatch to the engine room much easier to install.

Yes but I want more than just a camera. I already have a camera. Looking for snap sensor alarm and other sensors with notification.

We have Siren and love it. I put in a cheap Amazon alarm tied to our salon door and it is ear piercingly loud when activated. I emailed Siren and they claim they’re developing cameras to work with the system. I plan on finding out for sure at FLIBS in a few weeks. Hopefully they have some on display.

I also bought a snap sensor for the alarm that I plan on attaching my tender to.

Got off the phone with Siren. I think I'm going with the NEW Siren Pro. It has a bunch of new options. I also went ahead and ordered the snap sensor kit from ebay. I know it sounds silly to buy this now when I'm getting the Siren setup. For now I'm wiring up the ebay one since the boat is in my backyard and over the winter/Spring will wire up the Siren. The snap sensor kit is cheaper then the snap acc from Siren and I get a speaker with it too. I ordered a strobe also.

Mnm99, you could get a small inverter wired to 12vdc block and run your 110 hub, I have one under the helm to charge iPads, phones. If you lose shore power your still running on 12vdc.

I know it may be too late......but for the Siren snap accessory it’s around $35 and it is WAY easier to wire than what that eBay snap siren looks to be. The Siren version is only two wires.

FWIW I bought my entire setup on eBay and scored some pretty good deals by doing it that way. But if course a year after I buy mine......that Siren 3 comes out! Looks to be worth it, the nmea2k add on for my MTC is $400.

From what I can see it's the same 2 wire snap setup. The ebay comes with 2 of them along with a siren and 50 feet of wire. At least I can use that stuff later on. Yes the Pro has the NMEA now and said in the future there looking to make the unit a wifi hot spot.

Edit...The siren snap looks better made. I may just buy that and install it.

just trying to understand. my camera alerts me if there's motion on the boat, so I would know if someone is intruding. Are these sensors a way to know that the canvas is getting opened also for intruders or more a weather thing? my cameras do alert me when the wind increases because they detect the canvas moving too much.

Agree 100%. I can set mine to notify me if someone steps on the swim platform.... but it's comical when I get a person notification and it's someone on a boat passing by!
